The Harvia Cilindro is more than just a heater; it’s a pillar of stone. Its open outer shell is made of high-quality stainless steel, allowing you to control the heat: throw water on the side of the pillar for soft, gentle steam, or over the top for a more intense kick.

Step 1: Selecting Your Model

The Cilindro is designed for those who want a lot of stone mass. Choosing between the PC70 and PC90 depends entirely on your room volume.

Integrated Controls: Both of these "PC" models come with built-in manual dials (Timer and Thermostat) located at the very front of the base for easy access.

Step 2: The Delivery (What to Expect)

Because of the sheer amount of stone required, the delivery of a Cilindro is different from a standard wall heater.

• The Shipment: This will arrive as a multi-box delivery or on a pallet. You will receive the stainless steel heater tower in one tall box, and 4 to 5 heavy boxes of stones (20 kg each).
• The Drop-off: The driver will get this as close to your door as possible, but since the total weight is over 100 kg, it’s a good idea to have a clear space ready and a second pair of hands to help move the boxes inside.
• The 24-Hour Check: Carefully slide the steel tower out of its box. Check the mesh frame for any bends or shipping damage. If you see anything, take a photo and let us know within 24 hours.

Step 3: Pre-Installation Prep

While you wait for your electrician, you can handle the "heavy lifting":

1. Washing the Stones: With up to 90 kg of stone, this is a big job! Rinse them in a bucket of plain water to remove dust. This ensures your first sauna smells like fresh steam, not burnt rock-dust.
2. Floor Prep: The Cilindro is a floor-standing heater. Once full of stones, it is very heavy (approx 110 kg). Make sure your sauna floor is level and sturdy enough to support the weight.
3. Safety Distances: Because the Cilindro is an open mesh, it gets very hot. Check your manual to ensure you have enough clearance from your wooden benches (usually about 100mm).

Step 4: The Professional Connection

The Cilindro is a high-performance heater that needs a dedicated electrical feed.

Note: Always defer to your Registered Electrician. They will confirm your consumer unit can handle a 7 kW or 9 kW load.

• The Silicone Requirement: Your electrician must use High-Temperature Silicone Cable (SiHF-JB) for the connection inside the sauna. Standard house wiring will fail in the heat of a 90 kg stone mass.
• Hard-Wired: These units are not "plug-in." They require a dedicated circuit and a fused isolator switch.

Step 5: The First Heat Ceremony

1. The Art of Stacking: Drop the stones into the tower. Place them loosely around the heating elements so air can flow upwards. Ensure the elements are completely covered so you don't accidentally pour water directly onto the bare metal.
2. The Burn-Off: Turn the heater on to max for 60 minutes with the sauna door open.
3. The Scent: Because of the huge stone volume, the "new" smell might last a bit longer than smaller heaters. Once it’s gone, close the door, let the room get to temp, and enjoy the best steam you’ve ever experienced.

Stewardship & Warranty

• Save the EIC: Keep your Electrical Installation Certificate in a safe place. It’s the only way to validate your 2-year warranty.
• Ladle Technique: With a Cilindro, you can "play" with the steam. Pouring water on the top is for heat; pouring it on the sides is for humidity.

1. Power Demand & Circuit Protection

The Cilindro is a high-performance heater. Your electrician will need to verify that your home’s "Main Fuse" and consumer unit have the spare capacity to handle these loads.

2. Cabling: The "Silicone" Requirement

Because the Cilindro holds a massive 80kg to 90kg of stone, it retains a huge amount of thermal energy. The internal temperature of the sauna remains high for a long time, making the choice of cable critical.

• Internal Connection: Your electrician must use SiHF-JB Silicone Cable (rated to 180°C) for the final run from the wall junction box to the heater terminals.
• The Reason: Standard PVC or "Arctic" flex cannot withstand the sustained heat near a floor-standing pillar. Using the wrong cable is a fire hazard and will void your warranty immediately.

3. Integrated Controls

The "PC" models are designed for simplicity. The timer and thermostat are built into the base of the unit.

• Access: The controls are located at the bottom of the front panel. Ensure the heater is oriented so the user can safely reach these dials without touching the hot mesh frame.
• Overheat Protector: If the heater cuts out, it is usually because the stones are packed too tightly, restricting airflow. The Reset Button for the high-limit switch is located on the underside of the electrical box at the base.

4. Safety Distances 

Because this is an open-mesh heater, it radiates heat 360 degrees.

• Clearance: Your electrician and joiner must ensure a minimum safety distance (usually 100mm) from all combustible surfaces (benches and walls).
• Floor Fixing: The heater must be bolted to the floor using the provided brackets to prevent any movement that could strain the electrical connections.

5. Certification

Following the "First Heat" commissioning test, your electrician should provide an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC).

• Warranty Support: You will need to provide a copy of this certificate if you ever need to make a warranty claim with Harvia.

Setting up your pillar of heat

The Cilindro is a centerpiece. Because it holds a massive amount of stone, the installation is more about floor prep and careful stacking than just hanging it on a bracket. Here is how to get it right.

1. The Delivery (The "Big Arrival")

The Cilindro doesn't arrive like a standard parcel. Because it is a 93cm tall steel pillar accompanied by nearly 100kg of rocks, it’s a substantial delivery.

• The "Stone Heavy" Shipment: You will receive one tall, light box containing the stainless steel heater frame, and 4 to 5 heavy boxes of stones.
• The Drop-off: The courier will get the pallet or boxes as close to your door as possible. Since the total weight is over 100kg, make sure you have a clear path to your sauna and ideally a second pair of hands to help move the stone boxes.
• The 24-Hour Inspection: Slide the steel tower out of its carton. Check the mesh frame to ensure it hasn't been squeezed or bent during transit. If you see anything out of the ordinary, snap a photo and let us know within 24 hours.

2. Positioning the Pillar

The Cilindro is a floor-standing heater. It doesn't hang on the wall, so it needs a rock-solid foundation.

• Level Ground: Ensure your sauna floor is perfectly level. The heater has adjustable feet to help you dial it in, but the flatter the floor, the more stable that 110kg tower will be.
• Safety Distances: Because the Cilindro is an "open" mesh heater, it radiates heat in all directions. You must maintain the safety gaps mentioned in the manual (usually 100mm from the heater to your wooden benches or walls).
• Fixing to the Floor: The heater comes with two floor-fixing bolts. Once you've found the perfect spot, these bolts ensure the pillar can't be accidentally knocked or tipped.

3. The Electrical Setup

The "PC" models have the dials (timer and thermostat) built into the very bottom of the front panel.

Note: These specs are for planning. Always follow the advice of your Registered Electrician on-site.

• Dedicated Feed: This heater needs its own circuit from your consumer unit. It is a high-power appliance (6.8 kW or 9.0 kW) and cannot share a circuit with other items.
• The Silicone Requirement: Your electrician must use SiHF-JB Silicone Cable for the connection inside the sauna. This is non-negotiable for a heater with this much stone mass; standard cables will simply melt over time.
• Accessibility: Ensure the dials at the base are facing a direction where you can easily reach them from the sauna door or the bench.

4. Loading the 90kg of Stone

This is the most important part of a Cilindro install. How you stack the stones defines how well it heats.

• The Wash: Rinse all the stones first. You don't want quarry dust baking onto your brand-new elements.
• The Center Stack: Place stones loosely inside the heating element cage. You want them to touch the elements to transfer heat, but you must leave gaps for air to flow upwards.
• The Outer Layer: Place stones more neatly against the outer mesh frame so they look great from the outside.
• The "Full" Mark: Fill the pillar all the way to the top so the elements are completely hidden.

5. The "Deep Heat" Burn-Off

Because of the massive stone volume, the first heat-up takes a little longer than a small heater.

1. The Test: Turn the heater to max.
2. Door Open: Keep the sauna door open and let the unit run for 60 minutes.
3. The Scent: You will notice a metallic smell as the elements and the 80 - 90kg of stones settle in. This is normal. After an hour, the smell will vanish, and the heater is ready for a lifetime of use.

Protecting your "Pillar of Heat" for years to come

The Harvia Cilindro is a premium, high-mass heater designed for a lifetime of service. To keep your 2-year warranty valid and ensure your heater performs as intended, there are a few simple but essential standards to follow regarding installation and stone care.

1. Your Warranty Coverage

The protection period depends on how the heater is being used:

• For Your Home (Private Use): 24 Months (2 Years).
• For Business (Commercial/Gym Use): 3 Months.

2. The Professional Standard

Because the Cilindro is a high-powered, floor-standing appliance, Harvia requires proof of a professional installation to honor any claims.

• Registered Electrician: Your heater must be installed by a qualified electrician.
• The EIC Document: Keep your Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) safe. This is your proof that the heater was correctly earthed and fused. Harvia will ask for this document in the event of a warranty claim.
• The Silicone Rule: The use of standard PVC cable inside the sauna will void the warranty. Your electrician must use High-Temperature Silicone Cable (SiHF-JB) for the final connection.

3. Stone Maintenance (Crucial for Cilindro)

The Cilindro holds between 80kg and 90kg of stone. Because the stones are in direct contact with the elements, how you look after them is the most important part of your warranty:

• Loose Stacking: You must stack the stones loosely. If you pack them too tightly, the heating elements will "choke," overheat, and eventually warp or fail. This is the most common cause of non-warranty repairs.
• The Annual Shuffle: Over time, the bottom stones can crumble due to the weight and heat. Once a year, remove all stones, discard any small fragments, and re-stack them. This keeps the airflow perfect and protects your elements.
• Fresh Water Only: Only use fresh tap water on your stones. Water from a pool (chlorine) or the sea (salt) will corrode the stainless steel mesh and elements, which is not covered by the warranty.

4. Proper Use

• Ladle Only: Always apply water using a sauna ladle. Dumping large amounts of water (like a bucket) over the stones can cause an "explosive" steam expansion that can damage the internal electrical components.
• Safety Distances: Ensure the heater is mounted with the correct clearances from wooden benches as specified in your manual. This prevents "charring" of the timber, which is a safety issue rather than a heater defect.

5. What’s Covered?

The warranty covers any manufacturing defects in the stainless steel frame or the heating elements themselves. It does not cover:

• Consumable items (the stones).
• Limescale buildup from hard water.
• Damage caused by improper stone stacking or "bucket-pouring."

At Balance Recovery we want you to be completely happy with your purchase. If you change your mind, the following returns policy applies to our range of Harvia sauna heaters. It is offered in addition to, and does not affect, your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.

1. Your 14-Day Return Window

You may request a return within 14 days of receiving your Harvia sauna heater. To start a return, contact us at contact@balancerecovery.co.uk with your order number and details before sending anything back.

2. Condition & Packaging

To be eligible for a return, the heater must be unused and unopened, in its original, undamaged packaging, complete with all components, fittings, control units, stones and documentation included. Heaters that have been installed, wired in, used, or removed from their original packaging cannot be returned under this change-of-mind policy (your statutory rights for faulty goods are unaffected — see section 6).

3. Return Shipping

You are responsible for the cost of returning the goods. We recommend using a tracked, insured service suitable for a heavy item, as the heater remains your responsibility until it reaches our warehouse. Please retain your proof of postage.

4. Inspection on Return

Once your return arrives at our warehouse it will be inspected to confirm its condition and that it is complete. We aim to complete this inspection promptly and will keep you informed throughout.

5. Your Refund

• If, on inspection, the heater is returned complete and undamaged in its original condition, we will issue a full refund.
• If any part of the heater is found to be missing or damaged on inspection, the cost of the missing or damaged part(s) will be deducted from your refund, and the remaining balance refunded to you.
• Refunds are issued to the original payment method once the inspection is complete.

6. Faulty, Damaged or Incorrect Goods

This change-of-mind policy is separate from your rights if goods arrive faulty, damaged in transit, or not as described. Any missing, damaged or incorrect parts should be reported promptly on delivery (please refer to the product's manufacturer's warranty for the reporting timeframe). Where goods are faulty or damaged in transit, you will not be charged for return shipping, and we will arrange repair, replacement or refund in accordance with your statutory rights.

7. How to Request a Return

Email contact@balancerecovery.co.uk with your order number, the item(s) you wish to return, and the reason. We will confirm the return address and next steps before you send anything back.

8. Your Statutory Rights

Nothing in this policy affects your statutory rights. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, goods must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described; under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 you have cancellation rights for most items bought at a distance. This policy is provided in addition to those rights.
