The finest sauna timbers must be low in resin, moisture-resistant, and have low thermal conductivity so the benches remain comfortable under intense heat. We highly recommend Thermally Modified Timber (TMT), such as Thermo-Aspen or Thermo-Alder. The thermal baking process removes moisture and stabilises the wood, resulting in a durable, splinter-free, and hypoallergenic finish that will not warp over time. While Western Red Cedar is also a beautiful option, Nordic hardwoods remain the gold standard for an authentic, long-lasting build.

Proper ventilation is the most critical element of an indoor sauna—not just for the longevity of your home, but for the quality of the air you breathe during your session. A poorly ventilated sauna feels suffocating; a well-ventilated one feels crisp and restorative. We design bespoke intake and exhaust ventilation systems tailored to your property’s existing airflow, paired with premium foil vapour barriers to ensure moisture never reaches your home's internal structure.

To achieve the 70°C to 100°C temperatures required for deep heat therapy, traditional sauna heaters require a dedicated, hardwired electrical circuit. Most residential electric sauna heaters range from 6kW to 9kW and must be installed by a certified electrician. During the design phase, we provide a comprehensive technical brief for your electrical contractor to ensure a seamless, fully compliant installation.

Because an indoor sauna is considered an internal home modification, you generally do not need planning permission in the UK. However, the installation must comply with standard building regulations, specifically those related to electrical safety and adequate room extraction.
