• Steam Generators: This is the hidden "engine" of the system. It is a compact mechanical unit that connects to your home’s water and electrical supply, boiling water to produce continuous, dense water vapour.
• Steam Showers: This refers to the physical environment where you experience the therapy. It can be a fully integrated, freestanding cabin equipped with seating and lighting, or a bespoke, sealed enclosure built directly into your bathroom architecture to contain the vapour.

A steam control panel is the digital brain of your steam room. Instead of relying on guesswork, these intuitive interfaces let you precisely control your environment.

• Precision Control: You can set exact temperatures, programme the duration of your session, and pre-heat the room before you step inside.
• Integrated Features: Advanced panels also let you control secondary wellness features in the steam shower, such as chromotherapy lighting, Bluetooth audio, and extractor fans, all from a single sleek interface.

Yes, by pairing a standalone steam generator with a waterproofed control panel, you can transform a standard shower space. However, your enclosure must meet specific architectural requirements:

• Fully Sealed: The space must be enclosed from floor to ceiling, including a watertight door, to prevent dense vapour from escaping and causing dampness in the rest of the bathroom.
• Sloped Ceiling: The ceiling should be built with a slight slope (approximately 50mm per metre). This allows hot condensation to run smoothly down the walls rather than dripping onto you during your session.
• Vapour-Proofing: Standard tile grout is not entirely waterproof. The walls require a complete tanking membrane beneath the tiles to protect the structural integrity of your home.
  
  

Sizing your generator accurately is critical; an undersized unit will run constantly and fail to reach the desired temperature. Generator power is measured in kilowatts (kW) and must be matched to your room’s volume:

• Base Calculation: Multiply your enclosure's Length, Width, and Height (in metres).
• Material Compensation: Wall materials drastically affect heat retention. Non-porous materials like acrylic or ceramic tile hold heat perfectly. However, if your steam shower is clad in porous materials such as natural stone, marble, or heavy concrete, you must multiply your base volume by 1.5 to 2.0 to account for heat absorbed by the walls.

• The Steam Generator: For safety and longevity, the generator must never be installed inside the wet steam enclosure. It should be situated up to 10 metres away in a dry, accessible, and well-ventilated space—such as an adjacent airing cupboard, a heated loft, or a bespoke vanity unit.
• The Control Panel: Depending on its waterproof rating (IP rating), the panel can be installed either inside the steam shower for mid-session adjustments or on the wall just outside the enclosure for easy pre-heating.

• Electrics: Smaller domestic generators typically run on a single-phase (230V) supply and require a dedicated circuit back to your consumer unit with RCD protection. Larger residential or commercial units (usually 9kW and above) may require a three-phase (415V) supply.
• Plumbing: Your plumber will need to install a cold mains water feed, a heavily insulated copper steam pipe leading to the steam nozzle, and a heat-resistant drainage line.
  
  

Limescale is the primary cause of component failure in steam systems. To protect your investment and ensure consistent steam production:

• Water Softening: We highly recommend installing an inline water softener or filtration system on the mains feed before it reaches the generator.
• Auto-Drain Functions: Look for steam generators equipped with an automatic drain-down valve. This feature automatically purges hot water from the tank after each session, significantly reducing the likelihood of scale calcifying.
• Descaling: Even with preventative measures, you should periodically flush the system with a liquid descaler to keep the heating elements completely clean.
