 No, control units are rarely universal. While some "independent" control systems can operate heaters from different manufacturers, you must check three critical compatibility factors:

• Power Rating: The control unit must be rated to handle your heater's kilowatt (kW) output.
• Sensor Type: Temperature sensors are often calibrated specifically for one brand’s circuit board. Mixing a sensor from Brand A with a panel from Brand B will usually result in error codes.
• Heater Type: Heaters with built-in mechanical dials cannot be easily converted to use an external digital panel without significant electrical modification. It is usually best to purchase the control panel recommended for your specific heater model.

• Standard Domestic (up to 9kW): Many modern digital control panels can switch up to 9kW of power directly without extra equipment.
• Large Domestic & Commercial (Above 9kW): If your heater exceeds 9kW, the current is too high for the slim wall panel to handle alone. You will need a Contactor Box (Power Extension Unit). This heavy-duty box is installed in a plant room or ceiling void to handle the high-voltage switching, while the wall panel acts simply as a remote interface.

• The Safety Requirement: Under UK and European safety regulations, any sauna with remote start capability must be fitted with a Door Sensor.
