Harvia Fenix FX170 WiFi Core | 17 kW High-Capacity Smart Control Hub

The Harvia Fenix FX170 (FX1704XC) is the elite digital command centre for high-output sauna environments. Engineered to manage heavy-duty heaters up to 17 kW, the FX170 is the definitive choice for large commercial cabins and expansive luxury home spas.

Featuring an IPX5-rated water-jet proof glass interface and integrated Dual-Band WiFi, the Fenix FX170 bridges the gap between industrial power and smart-home convenience. Whether you are controlling a large Harvia Legend pillar or a wall-mounted commercial array, the FX170 provides the precision, safety, and remote accessibility required for 2026's most ambitious wellness projects.

Why the Fenix FX170 is the 2026 Standard for Large Saunas:

1. High-Output 17 kW Power Management

Most digital controllers require expensive power expansion boxes (contactor units) once you exceed 9–11 kW.

  • The FX170 Advantage: It handles up to 17.0 kW natively, significantly reducing installation complexity and equipment costs for large-scale saunas.
  • Combi Ready: Fully compatible with Combi/Steamer heaters, allowing for centralised control of both temperature and humidity.

2. In-Cabin IPX5 Durability

The FX170 is not limited to the changing room wall. Its IPX5 certification allows the control panel to be mounted directly inside the sauna room.

  • User Experience: Bathers can adjust the heat, lighting, and ventilation in real-time without leaving the heat.
  • Commercial Grade: The toughened glass interface is designed for high-frequency use, resisting fingerprints, thermal stress, and high-pressure cleaning.

3. MyHarvia Commercial Connectivity

For facility managers or high-end homeowners, the native WiFi connectivity is a game-changer.

  • Multi-Sauna Management: Monitor and control multiple units via the MyHarvia App.
  • Smart Efficiency: Track energy consumption and set precise operating schedules to minimise utility overheads in commercial settings.
  • Safety Lockout: Features a door-sensor interface to ensure remote starts are only activated when the sauna is secure.

Buying Guide +

Harvia Fenix FX170 WiFi: Buying Guide

The high-capacity digital brain for large-scale saunas.

The Fenix FX170 is Harvia’s most powerful smart controller. It is designed to manage large "E" model heaters (up to 17 kW) in spacious home saunas or commercial spa settings. With integrated WiFi and IPX5 water resistance, it combines heavy-duty power management with modern "Smart" convenience.

1. Is the FX170 right for your project?

You should choose the FX170 if:

    • High Output: You are installing a large heater between 11 kW and 17 kW (e.g., a large Cilindro or a Virta model).
    • Multi-Device Control: You want to manage your heater, lighting, and ventilation from one high-spec interface.
    • Remote Access: You want to use the MyHarvia App to preheat your sauna from your office or the gym.

2. The Delivery (What’s in the box?)

Because this is a high-tech controller, not a heavy heater, it arrives as a standard parcel. Check that you have:

    1. The Power Unit: The large black relay box that handles the 17kW load.
    2. The Fenix Touch Panel: The glass-fronted digital interface.
    3. Temperature Sensor: The "thermometer" for your sauna ceiling.
    4. Data Cable: Connects the touch panel to the power unit.

Action: Inspect the touch panel glass immediately. If there is any shipping damage, report it to us within 24 hours.

3. The Prep (WiFi & Placement)

    • Network Check: The FX170 needs a stable 2.4 GHz WiFi signal. If your sauna is in a garden room, test the signal at the install site with your phone before the electrician arrives.
    • IPX5 Mounting: This unit is water-resistant. While it can handle humidity, the "Power Unit" (the relay box) still needs a ventilated spot—usually on top of the sauna cabin or in a nearby dry cupboard.

4. The Professional Installation

NOTICE: This unit manages massive electrical loads (up to 17 kW). You must consult a Registered Electrician. This is not a DIY task. You must always defer to your electrician’s professional judgment regarding your property's power capacity.

  1. Heavy Wiring: The FX170 requires significant cabling to handle the 17kW output. Your electrician will need to verify that your main fuse can handle this alongside your other home appliances.

5. First Use (The Digital Connection)

    1. Pairing: Download the MyHarvia App. Once your electrician turns the power on, you will sync the Fenix to your home network.
    2. The Remote Start Safety: To start the sauna from your phone, the system requires the sauna door to be closed. We strongly recommend adding a Harvia Door Sensor to complete this safety loop.
    3. The First Click: When you turn it on, you’ll hear the internal relays click. This is the unit sending high-voltage power to your heater elements.

Owner’s Brief for the Harvia Fenix FX170 WiFi Control Unit

CRITICAL NOTICE: The information below is for your project planning and budget estimation. You must consult a Registered Electrician to carry out this installation. The Fenix FX170 manages massive electrical loads (up to 17 kW); you must always defer to your electrician’s professional judgment regarding the safety and capacity of your property's electrical system and the suitability of your main fuse.

1. System Load & Power Capacity

The Fenix FX170 is a high-capacity power controller. It is the "hub" that takes the main power feed and sends it to the heater, lights, and accessories.

Max Total Load

Supply Requirement

Fenix FX170

17 kW

Up to 21 kW (with accessories)

3-Phase (Recommended)

The Load Warning: A 17 kW load is extremely high for a standard residential property. Your electrician must verify if your incoming supply can handle this alongside your kitchen appliances, EV chargers, or heat pumps. In many cases, a 17 kW heater will require a 3-phase electrical supply.

2. Component Infrastructure

As the owner, you need to coordinate the placement of the three main hardware points:

    • The Power Unit: This is a large relay box. It manages the 17 kW load and generates heat while doing so. It must be mounted in a ventilated area, such as a utility room or on the exterior roof of the sauna cabin.
    • The Data Cable: A low-voltage cable connects the Power Unit to the Touch Panel. Your electrician needs to run this through the walls/conduit before your sauna is finished.
    • WiFi Connectivity: The "Smart" features only work if the Power Unit can reach your home's 2.4 GHz WiFi. If your sauna is in a garden building, your electrician may need to install a WiFi access point nearby.

3. Mandatory Installation Standards

To ensure your home remains safe and your warranty stays valid, your electrician must follow these standards:

    • Silicone Cabling: Any wiring that enters the sauna room (to the heater or sensors) must be SiHF-JB Silicone Cable (rated to 180°C). Standard household PVC cable will melt and is a fire hazard.
    • Dedicated Circuit: The FX170 system must be installed on its own dedicated circuit, protected by an appropriately rated RCBO (Residual Current Breaker with Overcurrent protection).

4. Final Safety & Warranty Documentation

Once the installation is complete and the system is tested, your electrician is legally required to provide you with an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC).

    • Keep this document safe. Harvia requires the EIC to validate your 2-year warranty. Without it, you cannot prove the system was installed safely, which may also affect your home insurance coverage.

Action Plan for the Property Owner

    1. Site Survey: Have your electrician confirm your property can handle a 17 kW load before you purchase the heater.
    2. Cable Routing: Decide where the Touch Panel will go and ensure the data cable is installed before the walls are closed.
    3. App Setup: Download MyHarvia on your smartphone so you can pair the system as soon as the electrician turns the power on.

Harvia Fenix FX170 WiFi: Delivery & Installation Protocol

Deploying the high-power control system for your sauna.

The FX170 is a two-part system: the Power Unit (heavy-duty relay box) and the Fenix Touch Panel (user interface). Unlike smaller units, the FX170 is often used in larger or commercial saunas, meaning cable runs and signal strength are top priorities.

1. Receiving the System

    • The Parcel: This arrives as a single tech parcel. Inside, you must verify the five core components:
      1. Power Unit: The heavy black box (rated for 17 kW).
      2. Fenix Touch Panel: 4.3” glass digital interface.
      3. Temperature Sensor: Includes the 4m cable and overheat protector.
      4. Data Cable: 5m cable to connect the panel to the power unit.
      5. Door Sensor: Included as standard for safe remote WiFi operation.
    • The 24-Hour Inspection: Digital components are fragile. Inspect the touch panel for any glass damage. If you find any issues, take photos and contact us within 24 hours.

2. Strategic Component Placement

    • The Power Unit: This box manages 17 kW of power. It produces heat during operation and must be mounted in a ventilated area (IPX3 rated). Ideal locations are a dry service room, a cupboard outside the sauna, or on the exterior roof of the sauna cabin.
    • The Touch Panel: The Fenix panel is IPX4 rated (splash-proof). It can be surface-mounted or recessed. While it can be mounted inside the sauna (max height 1200mm), we generally recommend mounting it outside near the door for easier access and longevity of the electronics.
    • The Sensor: This must be mounted on the ceiling, centered directly above the heater. This allows the FX170's AI-based timer to learn your sauna’s specific heating curve accurately.

3. WiFi & "Smart" Preparation

    • Network Audit: The "Smart" features require a 2.4 GHz WiFi signal.
    • Signal Strength: If your power unit is located in a technical room or a garden building with foil-backed insulation, the WiFi signal may be blocked. Ensure a signal is present at the Power Unit location before your electrician finishes the install.
    • App Ready: Download MyHarvia from the App Store or Google Play. The Fenix uses a QR-code pairing system that makes syncing fast once the power is live.

4. Physical Installation Steps

    1. Conduit Prep: Run the data cable and sensor cables through conduits before the walls are finished. Avoid running the low-voltage data cable parallel to high-voltage power lines to prevent signal interference.
    2. Panel Flush-Mounting: If you are recessing the panel into the wall, your electrician will need to cut the mounting hole to the exact dimensions provided in the technical sheet.
    3. Heater Connection: The FX170 is a "slave" controller. It connects to the "E" model heater terminals. Ensure the heater is compatible with the 17 kW capacity of the unit.

5. Commissioning & First Use

    1. Manual Test: Power the unit on and use the touch panel to verify the heater, lights, and fan engage correctly.
    2. WiFi Sync: Follow the on-screen wizard to connect to your home network.
    3. Door Sensor Test: The MyHarvia app will only allow remote start if the door sensor confirms the room is closed. Test this by trying to start the heater via the app with the door open. It should refuse to start.\=

Harvia Fenix FX170 WiFi Warranty

Protecting your high-capacity smart system

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE: The Harvia Fenix FX170 manages significant electrical current (up to 17 kW). For your safety and to prevent fire risk, you must employ a Registered Electrician for this installation. Digital smart systems require precise wiring and sensor placement; you must always defer to your electrician’s professional judgment. Self-installation or bypass of safety protocols will result in the immediate voiding of all warranties.

1. Warranty Coverage & Duration

This warranty protects the Fenix FX170 hardware against manufacturing defects under the following conditions:

    • Domestic/Private Use: 24 Months (2 Years).
    • Commercial/Professional Use: 24 Months (excluding wearable components).
    • Proof of Purchase: You must retain your original invoice to initiate any claim.

2. The Professional Installation Clause

Because the FX170 manages such a high electrical load, the warranty is only valid if the following criteria are met:

    • Certified Labour: The system must be installed and commissioned by a Registered Electrical Contractor.
    • The EIC Document: You must keep the Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) issued by your electrician. This document proves the system was fused and earthed correctly for a 17 kW load. Harvia will refuse any warranty claim that is not accompanied by a valid EIC.
    • Wiring Standards: Use of non-heat-rated cabling (PVC) inside the sauna room for sensors or heater connections will void the warranty. Your electrician must use SiHF-JB Silicone Cable.

3. WiFi & Software Integrity

    • Connectivity: The warranty covers the Fenix hardware. It does not cover issues arising from your home network, poor WiFi signal strength, or third-party router failures.
    • Firmware Updates: To maintain the software-based safety features, the unit must be allowed to update its firmware via the MyHarvia App.
    • Remote Safety: The MyHarvia remote start feature is only warranted when used in conjunction with the included Harvia Door Sensor. Bypassing the door sensor safety loop voids the liability coverage of the unit.

4. Operational Limits & Maintenance

    • Load Limit: The warranty is void if the FX170 is used to control a heater exceeding its 17 kW maximum rating.
    • Environment: The Power Unit (relay box) must be installed in a ventilated area as per the IPX3/IPX5 guidelines. Damage caused by overheating due to being "boxed in" without airflow is not covered.
    • Sensor Care: The temperature sensor must be installed on the ceiling per the manual. If the sensor is moved or tampered with, the safety overheat protection may fail, voiding the system warranty.

5. Exclusions

This warranty does not cover:

    • Physical damage to the touch panel glass was not reported within 24 hours of delivery.
    • Damage caused by electrical surges, unstable mains voltage, or lightning.
    • Corrosion is caused by installing the digital components in an environment with high salt or chlorine concentration.
