The Exterior: Striking Contrast in the Frost
Because the property regularly experiences beautiful, frosty weather in the colder months, the exterior architecture needed to be both highly resilient and visually striking.
The Bold Black Silhouette
We clad the structure in premium Thermowood, renowned for its exceptional durability in harsh conditions. We then finished the exterior in a deep, classic black paint.
A Visual Anchor
This bold black finish serves a magnificent aesthetic purpose. When the surrounding landscape is blanketed in stark white frost or vibrant autumn colours, the dark silhouette of the sauna stands out perfectly, anchoring it to the earth and creating a breathtaking visual contrast with the natural world.
The Interior: A Canvas of Thermo Alder
Stepping inside, the interior was meticulously crafted to feel incredibly spacious, traditional, and deeply grounding. We utilised premium Thermo Alder, with elegant horizontal slats running throughout the build to visually elongate the room.
The Therapeutic Colour Gradient
To give the cabin a highly bespoke, dynamic feel, we played with the tones of the wood. The expansive, two-level "I-benches" and the floor were finished in a rich, dark tone, anchoring the body and providing a deep psychological sense of grounding and security. In beautiful contrast, the walls and ceiling were crafted from a lighter-toned Alder. This draws the eye upward, mimicking the sky and ensuring the cabin feels incredibly open and airy.
The Heart of the Heat: The Harvia Clindro PC90
At the core of this therapeutic retreat stands the revered Harvia Clindro PC90, beautifully integrated with a custom wooden safety rail.
The Ritual of Löyly
The tall, pillar design of the Clindro exposes a massive column of sauna stones. With the protective rail in place, occupants can safely and freely lean forward to pour water from the ladle over the heated stones. This traditional ritual instantly generates a rich, enveloping wave of Finnish steam (löyly). The heat penetrates deep into the muscles, releasing physical tension and promoting profound cardiovascular relaxation.
Sensory Immersion: Reflective Glass and Sunset Illumination
What truly elevates this sauna into a masterpiece of wellness is how it interacts with light and the surrounding landscape.
Panoramic Privacy
We installed a massive, reflective, clear glass front. This architectural feature allows occupants to take in the breathtaking views from absolutely any seating position within the sauna. Because the glass is reflective on the outside, it mirrors the beautiful landscape back to the garden while providing the occupants with total, uncompromising privacy.
The Evening Transition
As the sun begins to set and the extraordinary views give way to dusk, the interior therapy deepens. We integrated warm, ambient LED lighting completely concealed beneath the tiered benches and behind the ergonomic backrests. As the daylight fades, this indirect lighting casts a soft, golden glow across the horizontal slats.
