Harvia Virta Wall Combi | Premium Steam & Bio-Sauna Heater

The Harvia Virta Wall Combi is the ultimate solution for those who demand versatility from their sauna. Combining a powerful electric heater with an integrated 5L steamer, this unit transforms a standard dry Finnish sauna into a humid, aromatic "Bio-Sauna." Its sleek, wall-mounted design is engineered specifically for premium UK home installations where floor space is at a premium but performance cannot be compromised.

Crafted with Harvia’s signature Finnish durability, the Virta Wall Combi features front-access maintenance, allowing you to service the heating elements without ever touching the 30kg stone bed—a significant advantage for long-term reliability and ease of use.

The "Multi-Sensory" Hero: Integrated 5L Steamer

The defining feature of the Virta Wall Combi is its ability to create a "Soft-Heat" environment:

  • Precision Humidity: The 5L water tank provides a constant supply of steam, allowing you to lower the temperature (to 50–60°C) while increasing humidity for a gentler, more relaxing session.
  • Aromatherapy Ready: Features a dedicated soapstone cup for liquid fragrances and a stainless steel grate for bagged herbs, infusing your sauna with therapeutic scents.
  • Dual-Action Heating: The steamer and the stone-heating elements operate independently, giving you total control over the climate via your digital controller.

Engineering Excellence & UK Compliance

In 2026, the Virta Wall Combi is the "Technician's Choice" for UK residential wellness projects:

  • Wall-Mounted Space Efficiency: At only 390mm deep, this heater sits flush against the wall, providing more room for benching in compact 5–14m³ cabins.
  • Durable Heating Element Design: The heating elements are physically separated from the stones, preventing thermal shock and mineral build-up, which dramatically extends the heater’s lifespan.
  • IPX4 Rated Protection: Fully certified for high-humidity environments, ensuring 100% electrical safety during intense steam sessions.

Implementation & Installation Notes

  • UK Electrical Setup: Both models are highly adaptable. While 3-Phase (400V) is standard for European efficiency, these units can be professionally wired to a UK Single-Phase (230V) supply. The 6.0kW requires a 32A fuse, while the 9.0kW typically requires a 40A-45A dedicated circuit.
  • Control Requirement: This is an "E-Model" heater and requires a separate Combi-capable control unit (e.g., Harvia Xenio Combi CX110C or the WiFi-enabled CX110CXW) to manage both the temperature and the steamer functions.
  • Sauna Stones: Requires 30kg of small (Ø 5–10cm) Olivine Diabase stones for optimal airflow and steam production.

Harvia Virta Combi Buying Guide

Integration Guide for HLW60S (6kW) & HLW90S (9kW) Systems

The Virta Combi is a high-performance "Bio-Sauna" system. It requires a more sophisticated installation than a standard heater due to the integrated 2.0kW steamer unit and its 5-litre water reservoir. Following this protocol ensures safety, warranty validity, and peak performance.

1. Selection & Technical Baseline

Before installation begins, verify your model against your sauna volume.

2. Logistics & Arrival Protocol

  • The 24-Hour Audit: Upon delivery, unbox and inspect the unit immediately. Check the stainless steel casing for dents and ensure the fragrance stone cup (located on the steam vent) is present.
  • Transit Damage: Any cosmetic issues must be reported with photos within 24 hours. Once the unit is wall-mounted, shipping insurance for cosmetic defects expires.
  • Storage: Keep the unit in a dry environment. The integrated steamer has sensitive humidity sensors that must not be exposed to damp construction sites prior to installation.

3. The Infrastructure Brief (Electrician’s Mandate)

This heater is technically two appliances in one. All electrical work must be certified.

  • Dual-Circuit Requirement: The heater requires a Combi-specific control hub (e.g., Xenio CX110C) to manage both the stones and the steam tank.
  • Cable Specification: You MUST use SiHF-JB Silicone Cable (180°C) for all connections inside the sauna. Standard PVC will melt and poses a fire risk.
  • Load Verification: * The HLW90S draws ~39A on a single-phase supply. Your electrician must verify that your property's Main Service Fuse can handle this load alongside other household appliances.
  • Safety: A dedicated Type B RCBO is required to prevent nuisance tripping during the steamer’s boiling phase.

4. Installation & Mechanical Setup

  • Wall Mounting: The Virta is a heavy unit. When loaded with 30kg of stones and 5kg of water, it exceeds 60kg. Ensure the wall studs are reinforced behind the mounting bracket.
  • Stone Loading: * Wash the stones to remove dust.
    • Loose Stack: Place the stones loosely around the elements.
    • Warning: Do not block the steam discharge vent. Air must flow freely through the heater for convection.
  • The Water Tank: The 5-litre tank can be filled manually or connected to a constant water supply (if using the "Auto-Fill" model variant).

5. The "First Heat" Commissioning

Do not use the sauna for its first 60 minutes of operation.

  1. Phase 1 (The Dry Burn): Set the heater to 80°C for 30 minutes with the door open. This vents the protective oils from the heating elements.
  2. Phase 2 (The Steam Burn): Fill the tank and activate the steamer for 30 minutes. This cleans the internal tank and ensures the humidity sensors are calibrated.
  3. The Sign-Off: Retain your Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC). This is your "Key" to the 24-month warranty.

6. Maintenance & Warranty Stewardship

  • Water Quality: Never use chlorinated pool water or salt water in the steamer. Use only fresh domestic water.
  • Limescale: In hard water areas, the tank must be descaled regularly. Damage caused by "boiling dry" or limescale buildup is not covered by warranty.
  • Fragrance: Only add sauna aromas to the soapstone cup, never directly into the water tank.

Infrastructure Guidance for Virta Combi HLW60S & HLW90S

Notice to Property Owner: This document is for guidance and planning purposes. All electrical installations must be carried out by a qualified, registered electrician in accordance with national wiring regulations. Your contractor will have the final authority on cable sizing, circuit protection, and site-specific safety.

1. The "Combi" Power Profile

The Virta Combi is a dual-purpose appliance. Unlike standard heaters, it draws power for both the heating elements and the integrated 2.0kW steamer. Your electrician must calculate the total load based on both systems running simultaneously.

Model

Heater Output

Steamer Output

Total Combined Load

Virta HLW60S

6.0 kW

2.0 kW

8.0 kW

Virta HLW90S

9.0 kW

2.0 kW

11.0 kW

2. Supply Configurations

The Virta Combi is highly adaptable, but the choice of supply impacts your home's electrical demand.

  • 3-Phase (400V 3N~): The most efficient installation method. It balances the load across three phases, requiring smaller fuses (typically 3 x 16A) and preventing "light flickering" or heavy strain on a single circuit.
  • Single-Phase (230V 1N~): Possible for both models, but requires significant amperage.
    • HLW90S Note: On a single-phase supply, the 11kW total load draws approximately 48 Amps. Your electrician must verify that your property’s Main Service Fuse and the supply cable (SWA) are rated to handle this intensity alongside other household appliances.

3. The "High-Heat" Cabling Mandate

Standard domestic electrical cable (PVC) will degrade and fail inside a sauna environment.

  • Mandatory Material: All wiring from the sauna's internal junction box to the heater terminals must be SiHF-JB Silicone Cable (rated to 180°C).
  • Why it matters: This cable is designed to remain flexible and safe under extreme thermal cycling. Use of non-silicone cable is a fire risk and will void the manufacturer's warranty.

4. Control & Protection

  • Control Hub Compatibility: Because this is a "Combi" unit, it must be paired with a control unit capable of managing humidity (e.g., Harvia Xenio CX110C). A standard heater-only controller will not operate the steamer.
  • RCD Protection: We recommend a dedicated Type B RCBO. This is designed to handle the specific "leakage" profile of high-output heating elements and prevents "nuisance tripping" when the steamer begins its boil cycle.
  • Sensor Placement: To ensure the safety cut-out functions correctly, the temperature sensor must be mounted 150mm below the ceiling, centered directly above the heater.

5. Electrician’s Sign-Off & Warranty

To ensure your Harvia warranty remains valid, your electrician must provide you with an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC). This document proves that:

  1. The unit is correctly earthed.
  2. The cable thickness is appropriate for the run length (Voltage Drop).
  3. The system has been tested for safety under full load.
Delivery & Installation +

Delivery & Installation Harvia Virta Combi

Technical Protocol for HLW60S & HLW90S Systems

This guide is designed to help you navigate the arrival and setup of your Virta Combi system. Following these steps ensures a smooth installation and protects the long-term performance of the dual-heating technology.

1. Delivery & The "Final Yard" Logistics

  • The Format: Your Virta Combi is a precision appliance and arrives palletised to ensure it remains upright and protected.
  • Site Access: Delivery is typically kerbside via a tail-lift vehicle. Please ensure you have a clear, hard-standing path (concrete or tarmac) for the pallet truck.
  • The Arrival Audit: Before the installation begins, please take a moment to:
    • Inspect the stainless steel outer shell for any transit-flex or scratches.
    • Verify the integrated 5L water tank is aligned and the fragrance cup is present.
    • Note: Any cosmetic concerns should be photographed and reported within 24 hours to ensure insurance coverage.

2. Preparing the Mounting Surface

The Virta Combi is a wall-mounted specialist. When fully loaded with 30kg of stones and 5kg of water, the unit has a static weight of approximately 62kg.

  • Structural Support: We recommend anchoring the mounting bracket directly into wall studs or a reinforced wooden plate behind your sauna cladding.
  • Airflow Clearance: To allow for proper convection, ensure a minimum gap of 50mm between the floor and the bottom of the heater.

3. Electrical Setup (Professional Guidance)

To ensure the safety of the dual-circuit (Heater + Steamer) system, your electrician should be aware of the following:

  • The Silicone Standard: All connections from the sauna junction box to the heater terminals must use SiHF-JB Silicone Cable (180°C). Standard PVC is not rated for the ambient temperatures found in the Virta's convection zone.
  • Supply Load: * HLW60S: 6kW Heater + 2kW Steamer.
    • HLW90S: 9kW Heater + 2kW Steamer.
  • Sensor Placement: The temperature sensor should be mounted on the wall directly above the center of the heater, 150mm below the ceiling line.

4. Mechanical Commissioning

  • Stone Preparation: Please wash the 30kg of stones before use. When stacking, place them loosely around the elements. This "loose stack" is vital—it creates the airflow necessary to prevent the elements from overheating.
  • The Water Reservoir: Ensure the manual drain valve at the base of the heater is closed before filling the 5-litre tank for the first time.

5. The "First Heat" Protocol

Before your first session, we recommend a simple two-stage "burn-off":

  • Dry Heat: Run the stones at 80°C for 30 minutes with the door open to clear any manufacturing residues.
  • Steam Cycle: Run the steamer for 20 minutes to cleanse the internal tank and verify the humidity sensors.
  • Validation: Ensure your electrician provides you with the Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) to keep with your warranty records.
Warranty +

Harvia Virta Combi: Warranty & Care Covenant

Warranty Standards for HLW60S & HLW90S Systems

The Harvia Virta Combi is a precision-engineered "Bio-Sauna" instrument. To ensure your system remains covered by the manufacturer’s warranty, please adhere to the following professional standards and care protocols.

1. Warranty Terms & Operational Grade

The duration of your warranty is determined by the environment in which the unit is installed:

  • Domestic/Private Use: 24 Months.
  • Commercial/Public Use: 6 Months.
    • Note: Any installation in a shared facility (gym, hotel, spa, or apartment block) is classified as Commercial due to the higher duty cycle and thermal stress on the elements.

2. The "Installation Audit" (Requirements for Validity)

The warranty is activated only when the unit is installed to professional standards. You must retain the following documentation:

  • The EIC Certificate: You must be able to provide the Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) issued by your registered electrician. This proves the unit was earthed and fused correctly.
  • The Silicone Rule: Use of non-silicone (PVC) cabling within the sauna envelope voids the warranty. Only SiHF-JB Silicone Cable (180°C) is approved for the final connection to the heater.
  • Control Compatibility: The unit must be paired with an approved Harvia Combi-control hub (e.g., Xenio CX110C). Using third-party or non-combi controllers terminates the warranty.

3. Water Quality & Steamer Stewardship

The integrated 5L steamer is a specialized component. Its longevity depends entirely on water management:

  • Fresh Water Only: Never use chlorinated pool water, salt water, or greywater in the steamer tank. This causes rapid corrosion (pitting) of the steamer element, which is not a manufacturing defect.
  • Limescale Management: In hard water areas, the steamer tank must be descaled regularly. Damage caused by "boiling dry" due to limescale buildup on the sensors is classified as lack of maintenance and is not covered.
  • Fragrance Placement: Aromas must only be placed in the soapstone cup. Adding oils or fragrances directly into the water tank can cause the tank to "foam over" and damage the internal electronics.

4. Element Protection (The Airflow Rule)

The heating elements (for the stones) are designed to be cooled by rising air.

  • The "Loose Stack" Mandate: If elements fail due to "heat-clashing" or warping caused by stones being packed too tightly, the claim will be rejected.
  • Stone Purity: Stones must be washed before the "First Heat." Residual dust can bake onto the elements, creating "hot spots" that lead to premature burnout.

5. Cosmetic & Transit Integrity

  • The 24-Hour Window: Any cosmetic damage to the brushed steel casing must be reported within 24 hours of delivery.
  • Exclusion: Once the unit has been wall-mounted or wired, it is deemed "accepted" in its current cosmetic condition, and transit damage claims can no longer be processed.

6. Limitation of Liability

The Harvia warranty covers the repair or replacement of faulty components only. It does not cover:

  • The cost of electrician labor for removal or re-installation.
  • Consequential loss of use or business revenue.
  • Damage caused by external power surges or "brownouts."
