Poolex Ice Spa 5kW | Full Inverter EVI Heat Pump for Hot Tubs & Swim Spas

The Poolex Ice Spa 5kW (PC-ICESPA) is the 2026 definitive solution for year-round spa heating in extreme climates. Specifically engineered to overcome the limitations of traditional spa heaters, the Ice Spa utilises Full Inverter technology combined with an EVI (Enhanced Vapour Injection) compressor. This advanced hardware allows the unit to operate effectively down to -25°C, delivering up to 3.1kW of heat even at -10°C ambient temperatures.

By replacing or bypassing your spa’s internal electric heater, the Ice Spa reduces energy consumption by up to 75%, offering a COP (Coefficient of Performance) of up to 8.6. Whether you are heating a Nordic bath or a high-volume swim spa, the Ice Spa provides "Plug & Play" integration with a reversible heating and cooling range of 5°C to 43°C.

Why the Ice Spa 5kW is the 2026 Winter Efficiency Leader:

1. EVI Technology: Engineered for the Freeze

Most heat pumps lose efficiency as the air gets colder. The Ice Spa solves this with Enhanced Vapour Injection:

  • Extreme Sub-Zero Performance: At -10°C air and 38°C water, the unit still outputs 3.1kW of heat. This makes it twice as cheap to run as a standard electric heater in the peak of winter.
  • Full Inverter Precision: The compressor and fan vary their speeds to maintain the exact temperature required, avoiding the energy-heavy "start-stop" cycles of non-inverter models.
  • Automatic De-Icing: Advanced sensors manage frost buildup on the evaporator, ensuring uninterrupted heating during snowy or humid winter conditions.

2. "Plug & Play" Smart Control Suite

The Ice Spa is designed for seamless user interaction and simple installation:

  • Remote Colour Touchscreen: The control panel is detachable and can be wired for remote mounting, allowing you to check your spa's status without leaving the house.
  • Smart Life App & Wi-Fi: Fully compatible with iOS and Android, the integrated Wi-Fi allows for real-time temperature adjustments and programmable timers from your smartphone.
  • Universal Compatibility: Supplied with 32/38mm hose tails and an integrated RCD mains cable, it connects easily to almost any hot tub, swim spa, or Nordic bath.

3. Reversible Climate Flexibility

In 2026, a spa pump must do more than just heat:

  • Cooling Mode: Capable of cooling water down to 5°C, the Ice Spa is perfect for "cold plunge" therapy or keeping swim spas refreshing during record-breaking summer heatwaves.
  • Titanium Heat Exchanger: The anti-corrosive Titanium coil is compatible with all water treatments, including salt and chlorine, and is backed by a 15-year warranty.

Following these steps will help ensure a seamless delivery and set-up of your Poolex IceSpa 5 kW inverter heat pump / chiller, whether you are fitting it to a spa, hot tub or cold-plunge at home or in a professional wellness setting.

The IceSpa is a reversible unit: it heats your spa or hot tub water and, in Chiller mode, cools it for cold-plunge use. It runs on R32 refrigerant through a titanium heat exchanger and connects to a standard single-phase supply

1. Place Your Order

  • Choose the Poolex IceSpa 5 kW model and complete your purchase on our website by providing your delivery address.
  • The price shown includes delivery within mainland UK (exclusions include the Channel Islands, areas of Scotland, and Ireland).
  • You will receive an order confirmation email immediately with your order details, estimated delivery timeframe, and next steps.
  • To ensure smooth access on the day of delivery, we may request photos or a short video of the delivery area, access routes, or surrounding space.
  • This helps our logistics team confirm the feasibility of delivery and kerbside unloading requirements.
  • All units are held in our UK warehouse and prepared for dispatch once your order is confirmed. Kerbside delivery and unloading are included at no additional cost.

2. Order Processing & Preparation

  • Once your order is confirmed, your IceSpa unit is scheduled for preparation and dispatch.
  • The IceSpa 5 kW is a factory-built inverter heat pump with a titanium heat exchanger and an R32 refrigerant circuit. It is quality-checked and tested before leaving the manufacturer.
  • The unit and its in-box accessories — RCD mains cable (5 m), 4 anti-vibration pads, 2 × 32/38 mm hose tails, 2 × hose clamps, winter cover, condensate drain kit and manual — are checked and securely boxed and palletised for shipment. (Detachable colour touchscreen inclusion on the 5 kW ).

3. Delivery Organisation

When your unit is ready, we organise delivery of the single boxed and palletised IceSpa to your address (kerbside). The 5 kW weighs approximately 42 kg net (around 50 kg gross, boxed). You will be notified of:

  • Delivery date
  • Estimated time window
  • Any access requirements (e.g., suitable driveway space for a pallet truck)
  • Your unit is dispatched directly from our UK warehouse, and unloading is included at no additional charge.

4. Pre-Installation Preparation

Before delivery, please prepare the following. These requirements come from the manufacturer's manual.

Base and siting (outdoors only)

  • A level, stable outdoor base or concrete slab, capable of supporting the unit's weight, on which the 4 supplied anti-vibration pads will sit.
  • Free, unobstructed airflow — exhaust air must not blow at neighbours' windows or recirculate back into the fan intake.
  • Do not site the unit near oil, flammable or corrosive gases, sulphur, high-frequency devices, or where mud, road spray or noise would be a nuisance.

Airflow clearances (5 kW):

  • ≥ 30 cm to the sides and rear.
  • ≥ 1.5 m clear in front of the fan/coil (the air intake and discharge).
  • ≥ 2.5 m from the spa/tub (may be sited closer thanks to the built-in RCD).
  • Nothing on top of or directly in front of the unit; never stand or step on it.

Plumbing

  • The IceSpa is installed after the spa's circulation pump, filter and heater in the water circuit.
  • Connect using the supplied 32/38 mm hose tails (1″). A bypass kit (2 × T-pieces + 3 × ball valves) is recommended so the unit can be isolated for service and winterising.
  • Dose all water chemistry (chlorine, bromine, pH, salt) downstream of the heat pump, never immediately upstream, and keep the water at pH 6.8–7.8.
  • Keep the upstream filter clean and check the flow rate monthly.

Condensate

  • Fit the supplied condensate drain kit to the base to route condensate and defrost melt-water away from the slab. (Detailed condensate routing is not given in the manual's English text .)

Electrical Preparation (Customer's Responsibility) All electrical work is entirely the customer's responsibility. You must:

  • Arrange a qualified electrician prior to installation.
  • Provide a 230 V single-phase, 50/60 Hz supply. The unit draws a maximum running current of 8 A.
  • Supply from an RCD-protected, properly earthed circuit. The manual's installation diagram specifies a 230 V, 16 A socket with a 10 mA RCD, sheltered from rain and water spray. The unit is supplied with an RCD plug (10 mA residual-current device built into the plug) and a 5 m cable — it is plug-in, not hard-wired. The 5 kW plug is stated to be suitable for outdoor sockets.
  • Ensure compliance with UK electrical regulations (BS 7671), including correct MCB/breaker and isolator selection and cable sizing. Beyond the 16 A socket reference, the exact MCB rating and cable cross-section (mm²) are not specified by the manufacturer [confirm].
  • Provide your electrician with the manufacturer's manual in advance, and where possible have them present on installation day.
  • Important: Failure to use a qualified electrician or to meet the required electrical standards may void the warranty.

5. Delivery & Unloading

On the scheduled delivery day:

  • Your IceSpa arrives as a single boxed, palletised unit.
  • Our delivery team unloads it (via pump truck or trolley where possible).
  • It is placed at your designated kerbside or base area.

Once delivered, please:

  • Unpack the unit and all accessories.
  • Check for damage or missing parts. Note any visible damage on the carrier's paperwork at the point of delivery.
  • Report any issues to us within 24 hours to maintain warranty eligibility. (The manufacturer additionally asks that any transit damage be confirmed in writing within 48 hours.)
  • If the unit has been transported lying horizontally, wait 24 hours before connecting it.
  • 6. Installation / Commissioning

Professional installation is optional. Otherwise, all plumbing and electrical work must be carried out by suitably qualified persons. The chiller arrives factory-built and fully assembled — only positioning, plumbing and the electrical connection are required.

Installation steps

  1. Position the unit on the level slab, on its anti-vibration pads, observing the stated clearances (≥ 30 cm sides/rear, ≥ 1.5 m front, ≥ 2.5 m from the spa).
  2. Plumb it into the circuit after the circulation pump and filter, ideally on a bypass kit, using the 32/38 mm hose tails.
  3. Prime and fill the circuit and check every union and hose clamp for leaks.
  4. A qualified electrician makes the RCD-protected, earthed connection and provides local isolation.
  5. Commission the unit using the manufacturer's pre-start checklist (see Section 7) and run it for the first time.
  6. Select Heat mode (spa/hot tub) or Cool / Chiller mode (cold-plunge) on the touchscreen and set your target temperature. The unit typically changes water temperature by about 1–2 °C per hour, so keep the tub covered and insulated.

Commissioning / first-run checks (from the manual)

  • Unit secure and level; pressure gauge reads > 80 psi; wiring to terminals correct; earth connected; hydraulic joints tight with no leaks; water circulating at an adequate flow; area clear of tools.
  • Start sequence: power on → start the filtration pump → activate the RCD/differential on the cable → start the heat pump → set temperature and mode on the touchscreen → the compressor starts shortly after.
  • After a power cut the unit wakes in sleep mode — re-arm the RCD and switch it back on.

7. Finishing & Safety Check

Once installed and commissioned:

  • Confirm the unit is level and secure on its pads, and that all clearances remain clear.
  • Check every water union, hose tail and clamp for leaks under running flow.
  • Test the RCD in the plug (press RESET to power on; test the RCD regularly thereafter).
  • Run a full heat cycle and a full cool cycle to confirm both modes operate correctly.
  • Obtain the electrical installation certification from your electrician.

8. Enjoy Your Chiller & Ongoing Support — Including Winterising

  • Warranty (return-to-base, from first invoice date): unit 3 years, compressor 7 years, titanium coil 15 years against corrosion; parts-only after year 3. The warranty excludes frost damage, incorrect water chemistry, and unauthorised repair or accessories. Any registration-based extension of these terms is not documented in our sources.
  • Operating ambient range: the unit is designed to run year-round from −25 °C to +43 °C, with automatic defrost/de-icing.
  • Winterising (important): when the spa is drained or taken out of use in frost, drain all residual water from the unit and fit the supplied winter cover. The manual further advises disconnecting the unit and storing it in a dry place (shed or garage) over winter. Frost damage is not covered by the warranty. For performance, keep the tub, pipework and an insulating cover all insulated.
  • Support: report any damage within 24 hours. Our support team is always available for assistance or replacement parts.

Returns & Refunds (Key Information)

  • Eligibility: Returns apply only to unused products in original condition. Custom or modified items may not be eligible.
  • Reporting issues: Missing or damaged components must be reported within 24 hours of delivery. Transit-damage claims require timely reporting; note visible damage on the carrier's receipt at the point of delivery.
  • Procedure: Contact our customer support with photographs or video evidence. A member of our team will assess the issue and arrange replacements, repairs, or next steps.
  • Refund conditions: Refunds or replacements are available only for products that are defective, damaged in transit, or not as described.

Final Note on Electrical Responsibility

All electrical work — including preparation, the power supply, the final connection, isolation, certification and compliance with BS 7671 — is 100% the customer's responsibility and must be completed by a qualified electrician. This requirement is essential for safety, performance and warranty validity.

Technical Specification: Electrical Supply

Owner’s Brief for the Poolex Ice Spa 5kW

SAFE SETUP: PLUG & PLAY VS FIXED WIRING

This unit is supplied as "Plug & Play" with a pre-fitted 3-pin plug and an integrated In-Line RCD. While this makes installation simple, the unit draws a maximum of 2.1kW. To ensure efficiency and safety, it should be treated as a dedicated load.

1. Power Infrastructure Requirements

The Full Inverter technology uses a variable-frequency drive to ramp the compressor speed up and down. This prevents the massive "inrush current" spikes seen in older heaters.

UK Standard

  • The Dedicated Circuit: Even though the unit uses a 13A plug, it should not share a socket with the hot tub's main control pack via a double socket or adapter. The combined load would likely trip the circuit breaker.
  • Cable Protection: If you are running an outdoor socket for this unit, it must be IP66-rated (weatherproof) and the cable should be protected from mechanical damage (e.g., lawnmowers or pets).

2. Inverter & EVI Logic

  • Soft Start: The Inverter drive ensures that when the compressor starts, it doesn't "dim the lights" in your house. It gradually increases power.
  • EVI Injection: During extreme cold (down to $-25^{\circ}\text{C}$), the EVI system engages. This increases the internal load on the compressor. Ensure your domestic voltage is stable; significant voltage drops in rural areas can cause the inverter to "fault out" to protect the electronics.
  • RCD Safety: The unit comes with an In-Line RCD. This must be tested monthly using the "Test" button. If the RCD trips, it indicates a potential earth fault—do not bypass it.

3. Control & Syncing

  • The "Relay" Option: The Ice Spa includes terminals for Integrated Control. This allows the heat pump to tell the spa's internal electric heater when to turn off.
    • Note: If you want the Heat Pump to be the primary heat source, an electrician can wire a relay so the heat pump "calls for heat" from the spa circulation pump.
  • Wi-Fi Module: The Wi-Fi antenna is internal. If the heat pump is placed behind a metal fence or thick stone wall, you may need a Wi-Fi extender to maintain the connection to the Smart Life App.

4. Commissioning & Protection

  • Winterisation Power: If you plan to leave the unit connected in winter, do not turn off the power at the wall. The unit has an Automatic De-Icing and anti-frost mode. If the power is cut, the water inside the heat exchanger can freeze and crack the titanium coil.
  • Voltage Check: Your electrician should verify the "Loop Impedance" at the socket to ensure the RCD will trip fast enough in the event of a water-related fault.

Owner’s Electrical Action Plan

  1. Socket Check: Ensure a dedicated, weatherproof outdoor socket is available within reach of the factory-fitted cable.
  2. No Extensions: Never use a domestic extension lead. If the cable is too short, have an electrician install a closer socket or a dedicated rotary isolator.
  3. App Connectivity: Ensure your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi signal reaches the installation site before bolting the unit down.
  4. Display Mounting: Decide if the colour touchscreen will stay on the unit or be moved to the "Remote" position (requires routing the signal cable).

Delivery & Installation Protocol: Poolex Ice Spa 5kW

PC-ICESPA | Full Inverter & EVI Extreme Climate Heat Pump

Because the Ice Spa operates via refrigeration cycles and air exchange, the installation "geometry" is just as important as the electrical connection.

1. Receipt & "Gas" Audit (Mandatory)

  • The 24-Hour Inspection: Unbox and inspect the chassis for dents. CRITICAL: Check the unit for any oily residue at the base, which could indicate a refrigerant leak (R32) sustained during transit.
  • Orientation Check: Ensure the unit was shipped upright. If it was delivered on its side, it must sit upright for at least 24 hours before being powered on to allow the compressor oil to settle.
  • Component Inventory: Confirm the RCD mains cable, anti-vibration pads, 32/38mm hose tails, and the winter cover are all present.

2. Site Preparation: The "Breathing" Zone

A heat pump is an "air-source" device; it cannot be hidden in a shed or under a deck without proper ventilation.

  • Air Intake (Rear): Minimum 300mm clearance from walls or fences.

  • Air Exhaust (Front Fan): Minimum 2000mm (2m) of clear space. If the cold exhaust air hits an obstruction and bounces back, the unit will "short-cycle" and lose all efficiency.
  • The Base: Must be level and solid. Use the provided anti-vibration pads to prevent the compressor's resonance from vibrating through the ground or your spa decking.
  • Condensation Drainage: The unit will produce water (condensation). Ensure the area has adequate drainage to prevent ice patches forming under the unit in winter.

3. Plumbing & Flow Logic (The Bypass)

The Ice Spa has a Nominal Flow rate of 2.15 m³/h. Most hot tub pumps exceed this.

  • Bypass Kit (Highly Recommended): You must install a 3-valve bypass kit (not included). This allows you to divert only a portion of the water through the heat pump, ensuring the water stays in the heat exchanger long enough to pick up heat.
  • Connection Size: The unit comes with 32/38mm hose tails. Ensure your spa pipework is compatible or use adapters to transition from standard 2" rigid PVC to the hose tails.
  • Sequence: The Heat Pump must be installed AFTER the filter and BEFORE the salt chlorinator/sanitizer to protect the titanium heat exchanger from high chemical concentrations.

4. Commissioning & Wi-Fi Setup

  • The "Water First" Rule: Never turn the heat pump on until water is flowing through it. Running it dry will cause a "Low Flow" error and may damage the internal sensors.
  • App Pairing: Download the Smart Life App. Pair the Wi-Fi while standing next to the unit. The Inverter technology will then begin its "Soft Start," slowly ramping up the fan speed.
  • Remote Display: If you choose to remove the touchscreen to mount it closer to the tub, ensure the data cable is housed in a waterproof conduit.

Installation Readiness Checklist

  •  Inspection: Unit sat upright for 24 hours? Any signs of R32 leaks?
  • Clearance: 2 meters of clear space in front of the fan?
  •  Plumbing: Bypass kit installed to manage the 2.15 m³/h flow?
  •  Drainage: Plan in place for condensation runoff?
  •  Chemicals: Unit installed downstream of the filter?
Warranty +

Poolex Ice Spa 5kW: Warranty Statement

PC-ICESPA | Multi-Tiered Performance Guarantee

The Ice Spa is engineered for extreme durability in cold climates. To protect your comprehensive warranty coverage, the following installation and maintenance standards must be strictly followed.

1. Tiered Warranty Coverage

Poolex provides a market-leading, three-part warranty for the Ice Spa 5kW:

  • Titanium Heat Exchanger Coil: 15-Year Warranty against failure due to corrosion.
  • Inverter Compressor: 7-Year Warranty (Parts only) against mechanical failure.
  • General Electronics & Parts: 3-Year Warranty covering the touchscreen, Wi-Fi module, fan motor, and internal sensors.

2. Conditions for Validity

To maintain your coverage, these technical and environmental conditions are mandatory:

  • Hydraulic Flow Management: The unit is rated for a Nominal Flow of 2.15 m³/h. If the unit is installed without a Bypass Kit on a high-pressure spa system, the excessive flow can erode the internal sensors or cause "Low Flow" vibration damage, which is not covered by warranty.
  • Winterisation & Anti-Freeze: While the unit operates down to -25°C, it must remain powered on if water is present in the system during freezing temperatures to allow the Automatic De-icing to function. If the unit is decommissioned for winter, it must be fully drained of water. Frost damage (cracked heat exchangers) is considered user negligence and is not covered.
  • Chemical Balance: Although the titanium coil has a 15-year corrosion warranty, water chemistry must be maintained within standard spa parameters. Excessive acidity (pH < 7.0) or massive chlorine spikes (shocking) directly through the heat pump can lead to premature seal failure.

3. The 24-Hour Inspection Rule

  • Refrigerant Integrity: You must unbox and inspect the unit within 24 hours of delivery. Look specifically for oily spots on the chassis or base, which indicate an R32 refrigerant leak.
  • Vertical Settlement: If the unit was transported horizontally, it must remain upright for 24 hours before being powered on. Failure to do so can cause the compressor oil to enter the EVI valves, causing immediate mechanical failure that is not covered under warranty.

4. Electrical Maintenance

  • In-Line RCD: The provided RCD cable is a safety device. If it is cut, modified, or bypassed to facilitate a specific hardwire installation without using a proper outdoor-rated isolator, the 3-year electronics warranty may be voided.
  • Voltage Stability: Damage caused by "brownouts" or significant voltage drops (common in rural areas or when using extension leads) is not a manufacturing defect.

5. Claims Procedure

In the event of a fault (e.g., an Error Code on the touchscreen):

  1. Documentation: Provide your original purchase record and the GTIN (PC-ICESPA).
  2. Diagnostic Data: Use the Smart Life App to take a screenshot of the unit's status and any fault logs.
  3. Visuals: Provide photos of the installation showing the 2-meter exhaust clearance and the Bypass Valve setup. Claims for poor performance are often rejected if the unit is "smothered" by a lack of airflow.

Warranty Validity Checklist

  •  Inspection: Reported any transit damage or oil leaks within 24 hours?
  •  Settlement: Did the unit sit upright for 24 hours before the first start?
  •  Plumbing: Is a Bypass Kit installed to regulate the 2.15 m³/h flow?
  • Airflow: Does the unit have at least 2 meters of clear space in front of the fan?
  •  Winter Care: Is there a plan to either keep the unit powered or drain it during a freeze?
