MSpa Hot Tub: Comprehensive Electrical Supply & Safety Standards
To ensure the safety of your home and the optimal performance of your MSpa, please review these mandatory electrical requirements. While the MSpa is a "Plug & Play" system, it is a high-power appliance that requires a specific electrical environment.
1. Unified Technical Specifications
Every model in the current MSpa lineup is engineered to operate on a standard UK domestic 13-Amp circuit.
-
Power Supply: 220V – 240V / 50Hz
-
Maximum Power Draw: 2100W – 2300W (Model dependent)
-
Connection Type: Standard UK 3-Pin Plug (BS 1363)
-
Internal Fuse: 13-Amp (Located within the plug)
-
Cable Length: Approximately 5.1 Metres
2. The "No Extension Lead" Prohibition (Critical)
Under no circumstances should an MSpa be connected to an outlet via an extension lead, multi-way adapter, or timer plug.
The MSpa utilises a high-wattage PTC heating system. Standard domestic extension leads are not rated to carry a continuous 2300W load for extended periods. Using an extension lead poses the following risks:
3. Outdoor Infrastructure Requirements
For safe operation in an outdoor environment, your power outlet must meet the following criteria:
-
Weatherproof Rating (IP66): The socket must have a weatherproof enclosure that allows the cover to be fully closed and latched while the spa is plugged in.
-
Dedicated Wall Socket: We strongly recommend the spa be plugged into a dedicated wall socket. Avoid sharing a double-socket with other high-load items (e.g., patio heaters or electric grills).
-
Placement: The socket should be installed at a height of at least 30cm – 50cm from the ground to prevent water ingress from surface flooding or heavy rain splashes.
-
Safe Proximity: The socket should be at least 2 metres away from the water's edge to comply with safety regulations, but within the 5.1-metre reach of the integrated power cable.
4. Integrated Safety Protection (PRCD)
Your MSpa is fitted with a Portable Residual Current Device (PRCD) integrated into the power lead for user safety.
-
Pre-Use Testing: You must test the PRCD before every use. Press the "RESET" button (indicator turns red) and then the "TEST" button (indicator should turn off). If the device fails this test, do not use the spa.
-
16A Labelling: You may notice "16A" printed on the PRCD safety switch. This refers to the maximum capacity of the safety component itself; the hot tub remains a standard 13-Amp appliance.
5. Professional Consultation & Liability
While the MSpa is designed for easy installation, the integrity of your home's electrical system is paramount.
-
Electrician's Judgment: If your property’s wiring is dated, or if your outdoor socket shows signs of discolouration or heat damage, you must always defer to the judgment, onsite assessment, and formal calculations of a qualified electrician.
-
Circuit Capacity: An electrician should verify that your outdoor ring main can accommodate a continuous 10-Amp to 13-Amp draw without tripping other household circuits.
Disclaimer: As the equipment supplier, we accept no liability for damage, injury, or product failure resulting from the use of extension leads, faulty domestic wiring, or non-compliant outdoor sockets.
