Harvia Family Medium Sauna Cabin | Premium Solid Spruce Indoor Spa

Create a sanctuary of authentic Finnish wellness in your home with the Harvia Family Medium (FAMILY-M). Meticulously designed for the discerning UK homeowner, this medium-sized sauna cabin balances a compact footprint with an expansive internal feel, making it the ideal architectural addition to a master suite, home gym, or dedicated wellness room.

Crafted by Harvia, the world leader in sauna technology, the Family Medium cabin is built for those who value longevity, natural materials, and the timeless ritual of the heat.

Sustainable Solid Spruce Construction

The foundation of the Harvia Family Medium is its solid spruce wall elements. Selected for its natural durability and exceptional thermal properties, solid spruce is the gold standard for traditional Finnish saunas. In the British climate, this high-density timber provides a stable, moisture-resistant structure that ages beautifully while ensuring superior heat retention for every session.

Ergonomic "Basic" Interior in Lime Wood

Step inside to experience the ultimate in tactile comfort. The "Basic" interior fittings are crafted from premium lime wood, a material specifically chosen for its smooth, splinter-free finish and low thermal conductivity. Even at high temperatures, the lime wood benches remain comfortable against the skin, allowing for total relaxation.

The interior configuration includes:

  • Two tiered benches: Designed for ergonomic support and sociable seating.
  • Integrated Headrest: Crafted for optimal neck support during reclining sessions.
  • Heater Protection Grille: Safety-first design that complements the cabin's aesthetic.

Modern Design Meets Ambient Wellness

The Harvia Family Medium features a full-glass front made of 8 mm single-pane safety glass. This transparent facade creates a seamless transition between your home’s interior and the sauna, flooding the cabin with natural light while maintaining a high-performance thermal seal.

To enhance your evening relaxation, the cabin features an integrated RGBW LED (white) light strip built into the roof support rail. This discreet lighting provides a soothing, high-end ambiance that elevates the sensory experience of your home spa.

3. Material & Construction Details

Solid Spruce Framework

The Harvia Family Medium is built using solid spruce staves. This traditional construction method is superior to thin-veneer alternatives, as the thickness of the wood provides natural insulation and ensures the structure remains stable during the rapid temperature fluctuations of a sauna session.

Lime Wood Interior (Linden)

The benches and interior fittings are made from lime wood, an industry favourite for high-end cabins.

  • Thermal Regulation: Lime wood is slow to absorb heat, meaning the benches remain comfortable for the skin even at high temperatures.
  • Soft Finish: It is a light-coloured, resin-free wood that is smooth and splinter-free, ensuring a safe and comfortable surface for all family members.

Optimised Airflow

To ensure a comfortable breathing environment, the cabin features a built-in ventilation slider. This allows the user to regulate the fresh air intake, ensuring the heat is distributed evenly without becoming stifling.

4. Standard Equipment & Features

Included as Standard:

  • Complete Cabin Elements: All wall and roof panels for a free-standing indoor installation.
  • Full Glass Front: High-quality safety glass facade and door for a modern, open feel.
  • Heater Protection Grille: A matching timber frame to prevent accidental contact with the heater.
  • LED Lighting System: Integrated RGBW LED strip in the roof support rail for mood-setting and colour therapy.
  • Installation Flexibility: Engineered for universal assembly (can be built as a left-hand or right-hand configuration).

5. Essential Installation Advice

  • Location: Strictly for indoor use in dry environments. The cabin should be installed on a level, moisture-resistant floor (e.g. tile, stone, or high-quality vinyl).
  • Electrical Requirement: Please note that the heater is typically selected separately to suit your power availability. For this volume (5.45 m³), a heater output of 6 kW to 8 kW is recommended. This will require a dedicated electrical supply installed by a qualified electrician.
  • Ceiling Clearance: A minimum height of approximately 215–220 cm is required in the room to facilitate the assembly of the roof panels.
  • Ventilation Space: It is recommended to maintain a small gap (20–50 mm) between the sauna walls and the room walls to prevent moisture entrapment.

1. The Project Roadmap: Harvia Family M (Medium)

Your A–Z Guide from Order to First Session

Investing in a Harvia Family M is a commitment to a lifetime of recovery. This roadmap ensures that every step—from the moment you confirm your order to the first "burn"—is handled with the professional precision a high-ticket sanctuary deserves.

Phase 1: Order Confirmation & Timeline

  • The Manufacturing Window: Once your order is confirmed, we enter the production and logistics phase.
  • Delivery Timeline: Your Family M is typically ready for dispatch within 2–3 weeks.
  • The Progress Invoice: For clients selecting our Professional Service, your installation invoice is issued closer to the delivery date, once your site preparation is confirmed.

Phase 2: Structural Foundation (The 850kg Mandate)

While more compact than the Large model, the Family M is built from heavy, solid Spruce. It requires a foundation that guarantees zero structural shift.

  • The Calculation: The net weight of the Family M is approximately 380kg. When accounting for the 6kW heater, 20kg of stones, and a 3-person occupancy, the "Live Load" reaches approximately 700kg–750kg.
  • Our Recommendation: We require a perfectly level base engineered to withstand a minimum of 850kg.
  • Approved Surfaces: Reinforced concrete, mortar-set paving, or structurally engineered decking. A level base is non-negotiable to ensure the 8mm safety glass door maintains a heat-retaining seal.

Phase 3: Electrical Infrastructure (The Specialist Brief)

The Family M is a high-performance system requiring a dedicated power supply.

  • The Specialist Partnership: You must hire a qualified NICEIC-registered electrician. They are the final Design Authority for your property’s power capacity.
  • Load Requirement: Depending on your choice, this model utilises a 6kW heater. This requires a dedicated radial circuit.
  • The Boundary: Our team (or your carpenter) will physically mount the heater and the integrated RGBW-LED roof strip. However, the final "live" connection must be performed and certified by your electrician to validate your warranty. Always defer to your electrician’s judgment on cable sizing.

Phase 4: Delivery & The 24-Hour Rule

  • Palletised Arrival: Your sauna arrives weather-wrapped and palletised to protect the solid Spruce and Lime Wood components.
  • Integrated Assistance: While delivery is kerbside, if access permits, our crew will navigate the pallet as close to the site as possible. We will also assist in manually carrying the individual components from the pallet to your designated installation site.
  • The Validation Window: Once unpacked, you must check all components. Any missing items or transit damage must be reported within 24 hours to maintain warranty eligibility.

Phase 5: Installation Pathways

  • Path A: Balance Recovery Professional Service: Our team handles the full structural build, bench mounting, and hardware placement. Benefit: 2-Year Professional Build Warranty.
  • Path B: Competent Carpenters (Self-Assembly): Your own team handles the assembly using our technical manual. Benefit: 1-Year Manufacturer’s Parts Warranty.

Phase 6: Warranty Validation (The Stewardship Ritual)

To activate your protection, two critical steps must be completed:

  1. The Preservation Seal: You must apply an appropriate breathable wood oil to the exterior and interior within 7 days. This allows the wood to "breathe" during 90°C heat cycles while protecting it from moisture.
  2. The Test Cycle: Once the electrician certifies the connection, run a full test cycle (1 hour at 80°C) to cure the elements and verify the LED calibration.

Phase 7: Ongoing Support

Your sanctuary is designed for life. We remain your dedicated reseller for the long haul, providing:

  • Replacement stones and parts.
  • Seasonal maintenance advice.
  • Technical support for your digital control systems.

Electrical Supply Specification: Harvia Family M

Technical Brief for 6.0kW Heating Systems

IMPORTANT: Professional Cosultation Mandate

This document is a technical specification provided for informational purposes to assist in project planning. It does not replace the professional assessment of a certified electrician. You must always consult with a qualified, NICEIC-registered (or equivalent) electrician prior to any works. The homeowner and their contractor must always defer to the electrician’s professional judgment regarding local site conditions, cable sizing, and circuit safety.

1. System Load Profile (6.0kW)

The Family M requires a dedicated power supply engineered for high-thermal loads.

2. Control Configuration Options

Please identify which control pathway your unit utilizes, as the wiring requirements differ significantly:

  • Option A: External Digital (Harvia Xenio Fenix): Requires a separate power unit mounted externally. All sensors and heater elements must be wired back to this central hub using SiHF-JB silicone cabling.
  • Option B: Integrated Manual Control: The mains feed is wired directly to the terminal block located on the base of the heater unit.

3. Essential Infrastructure Standards

While your electrician will determine the final installation design, the following standards are required to maintain your sauna's warranty and safety:

  • The Silicone Requirement: Standard PVC cabling (Twin & Earth) will fail in a sauna environment. All wiring entering the thermal envelope must be SiHF-JB high-temperature silicone-insulated cable.
  • Dedicated Radial: The sauna must not share a circuit with any other domestic appliances.
  • Electrical Deference: Your electrician may recommend higher-gauge cabling or specific isolation protocols based on the distance from your consumer unit or your property's earthing arrangement. Always follow their specific site-based directives.

4. Scope of Responsibility

  • Balance Recovery: We handle the physical assembly of the cabin and the mounting of the hardware (Heater, Sensors, LEDs).
  • The Electrician: Responsible for the final "live" connection, system testing, and the provision of the Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC).

Validation & Warranty

A copy of the EIC issued by your electrician is required to activate the 2-year electrical component warranty for your Harvia system.

Delivery & Installation +

Delivery & Installation Protocol: Harvia Family M

Technical Specifications & Structural Mandates

This protocol ensures your Harvia Family M is installed to the highest architectural standards. Whether you are utilising the Balance Recovery Professional Service or your own Competent Carpenters, these requirements must be met to ensure the structural integrity and warranty of your sanctuary.

1. The Timeline & Logistics

  • Delivery Window: Your Family M is typically delivered within 2–3 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Palletised Arrival: The sauna arrives securely palletised and weather-wrapped to protect the solid European Spruce and Lime Wood components.
  • Integrated Assistance: We provide kerbside delivery as standard. However, if access permits, our crew will navigate the pallet as close to your foundation as possible and assist in manually carrying the individual components from the pallet to your designated installation site.

2. The Foundation Mandate (The 850kg Standard)

The Family M requires a foundation engineered for zero structural movement. Even a minor gradient can cause the 40mm Spruce frame to shift, impacting the seal of the 8mm safety glass door.

  • Load Calculation: With a net weight of ~380kg, plus the 6kW heater, stones, and a 3-person occupancy, the base must withstand a Live Load of 850kg.
  • Approved Surfaces: Reinforced concrete pad, mortar-set paving stones, or structurally engineered decking.
  • The Levelness Rule: The host surface must be perfectly level. Our team (or your installers) cannot "shim" or level the sauna on an uneven base without compromising the structure.

3. Specialist Technical Brief: Electrical (6kW)

The Family M utilises a high-performance 6.0kW Harvia heater. Please provide this brief to your NICEIC-registered electrician to ensure the site is ready. Always ensure you defer to there judgement only

  • Circuit Requirement: A dedicated radial circuit is required from your consumer unit.
  • Load Profile: 6.0 kW (Typical 26–30 Amp draw depending on final cable run).
  • Mandatory Cabling: All internal connections from the heater and sensors to the control unit must use SiHF-JB high-temperature silicone cable. Standard PVC cabling will fail in the sauna environment.
  • The Boundary: Balance Recovery or your technicians will physically mount the 6kW heater and the integrated RGBW-LED lighting. However, we do not perform live electrical hook-ups. Your qualified electrician must perform the final termination and certify the installation (EIC).

4. Installation Service Options

We offer two pathways for the assembly of your Family M:

  • Path A: Balance Recovery Professional Service: Our team handles the structural build, bench mounting, hardware fitting, and LED placement. Includes a 2-Year Professional Build Warranty.
  • Path B: Independent Contractor (Self-Assembly): Your chosen carpenters handle the assembly using our technical manuals. Includes a 1-Year Manufacturer’s Parts Warranty.

5. Inspection & Warranty Activation

  • The 24-Hour Rule: Upon transfer of components, please inspect all timber and glass. Any missing items or transit damage must be reported within 24 hours to maintain warranty eligibility.
  • The Preservation Seal: To validate your warranty, a high-quality breathable wood oil must be applied to all interior and exterior Spruce surfaces within 7 days of installation. This prevents moisture ingress while allowing the wood to "breathe" during 90°C heat cycles.
  • The Test Cycle: Once your electrician has certified the power supply, run a Test Burn (80°C for one hour) to cure the heating elements and calibrate the digital control system.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Customer: Provide a level, 850kg-rated foundation and hire a certified electrician.
  • Balance Recovery: Deliver, transfer components to the site, and (if booked) execute the structural build and hardware mounting.
  • Electrician: Provide a dedicated circuit, perform final "live" connection, and issue the Electrical Installation Certificate.
Warranty +

Harvia Family M Warranty Document

Warranty & Stewardship Deed

At Balance Recovery, we believe a sauna is a lifetime sanctuary. This deed outlines how to protect your investment and the simple, professional steps required to maintain your warranty’s validity. This guarantee reflects our confidence in Harvia’s Finnish engineering and the authentic quality of Solid European Spruce.

1. Warranty Activation & Tiers

To ensure your Family M is established to the Balance Recovery Standard, your warranty is formally "Activated" upon the submission of your Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) and confirmation of your initial timber treatment.

  • The Professional Tier (2-Year Comprehensive): Valid when the Balance Recovery Team performs the full structural installation. This covers structural alignment, hardware mounting, and component performance.
  • The Self-Assembly Tier (1-Year Parts): Valid for installations by independent competent carpenters. This covers the manufacturer’s warranty on timber components and Harvia hardware, provided assembly strictly follows the official manual.

2. Structural Integrity: Solid European Spruce

The Family M is crafted from Solid Spruce. Because wood is a natural, organic material that reacts to the intense thermal cycles of a 6.0kW heater, we define its evolution as follows:

  • Coverage: We guarantee the structure against rot, fungal decay, and significant structural warping that prevents the safe use of the sauna.
  • Authentic Timber Characteristics: At temperatures reaching 90°C, solid timber will move. The following are natural signs of quality and are not covered as defects:
  • Surface Shakes: Minor hairline cracks that do not affect heat retention or structural safety.
  • Resin Seepage: The natural movement of sap (easily removed once hardened).
  • Knot Evolution: The unique grain and knot patterns inherent in European Spruce.

3. Component Coverage: 6.0kW Thermal System

Your sanctuary utilises a high-performance Harvia 6.0kW system (either Xenio Fenix External or Integrated Control).

  • The Harvia Heater: Covered for 2 years against mechanical or electrical failure.
  • Heater Elements: Elements are considered "consumable" components. They are replaced under warranty if failure occurs within the first 12 months of residential use.
  • LED Lighting: Integrated RGBW strips are covered for 1 year.
  • Electrical Exclusion: The warranty on all electrical components is void if the installation was not performed by a qualified electrician or if standard PVC cabling was used instead of the required SiHF-JB Silicone high-temp cabling.

4. Mandatory Stewardship (Conditions of Warranty)

To ensure the longevity of your Family M, the warranty is conditional upon the following "Best Practice" care:

  • The 7-Day Preservation Rule: A high-quality breathable wood oil must be applied to all exterior and interior Spruce surfaces within 7 days of installation. This manages moisture exchange and protects against UV damage.
  • Foundation Integrity: The sauna must remain on a level, solid base rated for 850kg. Structural failure or glass misalignment caused by "ground sink" or an unlevel base is not covered.
  • The "Löyly" Standard: Damage caused by excessive water "flooding" of the heater or the use of non-approved sauna stones is excluded from coverage.

5. Claim & Support Protocol

In the unlikely event of a component concern:

  1. Documentation: Email Balance Recovery with your order number, a copy of your EIC, and clear photographs of the issue.
  2. Assessment: Our technical team will review the claim within 48 hours.
Returns & Policy +

1. Eligibility — The Made-to-Order Nature of Your Purchase

  • Made to Order: Harvia products are made to order and enter production once your order is confirmed.

3. Reporting Transit Damage or Missing Items

  • Inspect on Delivery: Check all items carefully as soon as they arrive, and note any visible damage on the delivery paperwork.
  • Timeframe: Report any transit damage or missing parts promptly — within 24 to 48 hours of delivery.
  • Evidence: Email contact@balancerecovery.co.uk with clear photographic or video evidence of the damage or shortage, together with your order details.

4. Claim and Assessment Procedure

  • Submission: Send your report, proof of purchase and delivery date, and supporting photographs or video to contact@balancerecovery.co.uk.
  • Assessment: We assess each claim and, where required, liaise with the manufacturer to confirm the fault or shortage.
  • Outcome: Once assessed, we coordinate the appropriate remedy — repair, replacement of parts, full replacement or refund — in accordance with the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

5. Refund and Replacement Conditions

  • Covered Circumstances: Refunds or replacements are provided only where goods are defective, damaged in transit or not as described.
  • Not Covered: Change of mind, incorrect measurement or specification supplied by the customer, and normal characteristics of natural materials are not grounds for return once production has begun.
  • Remedy: Where a valid fault is confirmed, we arrange repair, replacement or refund as appropriate under your statutory rights.

6. Statutory Rights and Compliance

  • Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013: Bespoke and made-to-order goods are legally exempt from the standard 14-day cooling-off period for distance selling.
  • Consumer Rights Act 2015: Goods must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. Your statutory rights for faulty, damaged-in-transit or misdescribed goods remain fully protected, regardless of the made-to-order exemption above.
