Harvia Family Large Sauna Cabin | Premium Solid Spruce Indoor Home Spa

Experience the pinnacle of Finnish wellness with the Harvia Family Large (FAMILY-L). Designed for the discerning UK homeowner looking to integrate a high-end spa experience into their interior living space, the Family Large balances expansive internal volume with a sophisticated, modern aesthetic.

Whether situated in a master suite, home gym, or a dedicated wellness room, this premium cabin—crafted by the world leaders at Harvia—delivers a sanctuary of ultimate relaxation and restorative heat.

Sustainable Solid Spruce Construction & Durability

The Harvia Family Large is built for longevity and performance, featuring a robust exterior made of solid spruce. This high-density timber is prized for its natural look and exceptional durability. In the British home environment, solid spruce provides superior thermal insulation, ensuring that the cabin maintains a consistent, dry-area interior climate while providing the timeless aroma of an authentic Finnish sauna.

Exquisite Lime Wood Interior Comfort

The interior of the Family Large is designed for tactile luxury. Featuring "Basic" interior fittings crafted from premium lime wood (also referred to as linden), the cabin offers a splinter-free, smooth-to-the-touch finish. Lime wood is a preferred material for high-end saunas due to its low thermal conductivity, ensuring benches remain comfortable against the skin even as temperatures rise.

The ergonomic interior includes:

  • Generous multi-level seating for households.
  • Heater protection grille for enhanced safety during use.
  • Ventilation slider to provide optimal air circulation and a fresh breathing environment.

Modern Design: Full-Glass Front & Ambient Lighting

The Family Large transforms any room into an architectural focal point. It features a stunning full-glass front, creating an open, airy atmosphere that invites natural light into the cabin.

To elevate your evening sessions, the cabin includes an integrated RGBW LED (white) light strip recessed into the roof support rail. This discreet lighting feature creates a soothing, ambient glow, allowing you to tailor the atmosphere of your home spa to your mood.

Buying Guide Of Harvia Family Large

Your A–Z Journey to Sanctuary

The Harvia Family L is a significant investment in your long-term wellness. Because this model features a high-output 9kW system and a 5-person capacity, the installation requires professional coordination. This roadmap outlines exactly how we manage that process with you.

Phase 1: Order & Site Readiness

  • The Blueprint: Upon order confirmation, you will receive your technical site-prep pack.
  • The Invoice: For clients selecting the Balance Recovery Professional Service, the installation invoice is issued closer to the delivery date to ensure your site is ready for our team.

Phase 2: The Foundation (The 1,100kg Standard)

The Family L is a substantial structure of solid European Spruce. To prevent glass misalignment or structural shifting, your base must be engineered for a high "Live Load."

  • The Engineering Logic: The dry build weighs 427kg. With a 5-person capacity, plus the 9kW heater and stones, the total weight when in use exceeds 850kg.
  • Our Requirement: We recommend a foundation (reinforced concrete, mortar-set paving, or structural decking) capable of withstanding 1,100kg.
  • The Footprint: The base must accommodate the 196.0 cm x 189.0 cm footprint and be perfectly level to ensure the safety glass door seals correctly.

Phase 3: The Electrical Brief (9.0kW)

The 9kW heater is the powerhouse of the Family L. You must hire a qualified NICEIC-registered electrician to prepare the site. Always defer to your qualified electricians judgement as property requirements vary

  • The Two Proposals:
  • Option 1 (External): Harvia Xenio Fenix 110 Digital Hub.
  • Option 2 (Integrated): Manual dials located on the heater unit.
  • The Infrastructure: Your electrician will likely require a 40 Amp dedicated circuit (single phase) or a balanced three-phase supply.
  • Mandatory Deference: While we provide the specs, you must always defer to your electrician’s professional judgment regarding local wiring regulations and cable sizing.
  • Our Boundary: Our team mounts the heater and LED lighting. Your electrician performs the final "live" hook-up and certification.

Phase 4: Delivery & The 24-Hour Rule

  • Palletised Arrival: Your sauna arrives weather-wrapped and palletised to protect the Spruce timber.
  • Integrated Assistance: We provide kerbside delivery, but our crew will assist in manually carrying the components to your installation site (access permitting).
  • The Quality Check: You must inspect the components upon arrival. To maintain warranty eligibility, any transit damage must be reported within 24 hours.

Phase 5: Installation & Warranty Tiers

Your choice of installation directly defines your long-term coverage. We offer two pathways to suit your project:

  • Option A: Balance Recovery Professional Service
    • The Coverage: 2-Year Comprehensive Warranty.
    • The Benefit: Our team handles the precision structural build, hardware mounting, and alignment. We take full responsibility for the structural performance and "settling" of the solid Spruce for 24 months.
  • Option B: Independent Assembly (Competent Carpenters Only)
    • The Coverage: 1-Year Parts-Only Warranty.
    • The Benefit: We provide the premium Harvia components and timber. Your chosen contractor handles the build. Note: Labour, structural alignment, and door-seal calibration are the responsibility of your contractor.

Phase 6: Warranty Validation & Stewardship

Your Family L is a "living" structure made of solid Spruce. To "activate" your protection, you must follow the Stewardship Ritual:

The Preservation Seal: Apply a high-quality breathable wood oil to the exterior and interior within 7 days. This allows the wood to "breathe" during 90°C heat cycles while protecting it from moisture.

  1. Mechanical Check: Our team (or your installer) will verify that all doors and ventilation slats function smoothly.

The Test Cycle: Once your electrician certifies the connection, run a full 60-minute test cycle to "set" the elements and calibrate the cabin.

Phase 7: Ongoing Support & Aftercare

  • The Sanctuary Standard: Periodically inspect the timber and reapply breathable oil as needed based on your local climate.
  • The Long Haul: As your dedicated partner, we are here for replacement stones, technical support for your Fenix 110 controller, and seasonal maintenance advice.

Electrical Supply Specification: Harvia Family L

Notice to the Property Owner:

Technical Brief for 9.0kW Thermal Systems

This document is a technical specification provided for your records and for the use of your appointed electrician. You must always consult with a qualified, NICEIC-registered (or equivalent) electrician and defer to their professional judgment regarding local wiring regulations, cable sizing, and property load capacity.

1. System Load & Power Profile

The Harvia Family L is equipped with a high-output 9.0kW heater. This system requires a dedicated radial circuit from the consumer unit.

Component

Technical Specification

Heater Output

9.0 kW

Current Draw

Approximately 39.1 Amps (at 230V)

Phase Requirement

Single Phase (230V 1N~) or Three Phase (400V 3N~)

Circuit Protection

Typically a 40 Amp Type B RCBO

Lighting

Integrated White LED System (includes 12V/24V Transformer)

2. Control Pathway Configuration

Please identify which proposal has been selected, as the wiring topography differs:

  • Option 1: Harvia Xenio Fenix 110 (External Digital)

    • The Hub: A separate power unit is mounted externally (in a dry location or weatherproof housing).

    • Wiring: Requires data cable runs between the digital touch panel and the power unit, and high-temp silicone wiring from the power unit to the heater and sensors.

  • Option 2: Integrated Manual Control

    • The Hub: Controls are located directly on the heater unit.

    • Wiring: The mains power feed is wired directly into the heater’s internal terminal block.

3. Mandatory Material Standards: SiHF-JB

To protect the warranty and ensure long-term safety, the following cabling standard is non-negotiable:

  • High-Temp Silicone Cabling: Standard PVC-insulated cabling (e.g., Twin & Earth) must not be installed in the sauna cabin.
  • The Requirement: All wiring for the 9kW heater, sensors, and LED lighting must be SiHF-JB silicone-insulated cable, rated for temperatures of 180°C or higher.
  • Consequence: Failure to use silicone cabling will lead to insulation degradation and will void the warranty of all electrical components.

4. Boundary of Responsibility (The "Hand-off")

To ensure a safe and professional installation, the scope of work is divided as follows:

  • Balance Recovery / Installer: We handle the physical mounting of the 9.0kW heater, the placement of the internal temperature sensors, and the fitting of the LED strips into the timber recesses.
  • The Electrician: Responsible for the final "live" termination into the heater or control unit, testing the circuit integrity, and issuing the Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC).

5. Warranty Activation

The 2-Year (Professional) or 1-Year (Parts) warranty for the electrical components is activated only upon providing a valid EIC. This confirms that the 9.0kW system has been installed to British Standards and utilises the correct high-temperature cabling.

Delivery & Installation +

Delivery & Installation Protocol: Harvia Family L

Whether you have commissioned the Balance Recovery Professional Service or have appointed your own Independent Contractors, the following technical standards must be met to ensure the safety, performance, and warranty of your Harvia Family L.

1. Site Foundations (Mandatory Standard)

Regardless of who performs the assembly, the foundation is the most critical element of the build.

  • Structural Load: The base must support a total "Live Load" of 1,150kg (427kg build + 5 occupants + hardware).
  • The Precision Rule: The foundation must be perfectly level. An unlevel base will cause the 8mm safety glass door to misalign, compromising the heat seal.
  • Contractor Note: If your own builder is preparing the base, they must certify it as level and load-rated for 1,150kg prior to the sauna's arrival.

2. Electrical Infrastructure (9.0kW)

The 9.0kW Harvia system requires a dedicated power supply. Always defer to your electrician’s professional judgment regarding local site conditions.

  • Cabling: You must ensure your electrician uses SiHF-JB high-temperature silicone cable for all internal connections.
  • The Hand-off: * Balance Recovery Install: We mount the heater/LEDs; your electrician performs the final hook-up.
  • Self-Assembly: Your contractor mounts the heater/LEDs and coordinates the final hook-up with your electrician.

3. Arrival & Quality Control (The 24-Hour Rule)

To ensure all parties are protected, the arrival protocol remains the same for everyone:

  • Integrated Assistance: Our delivery crew will assist you in manually carrying the individual components from the pallet to your designated installation site (access permitting).
  • Inspection: Once unpacked, all components must be checked. Any missing or damaged items must be reported within 24 hours to maintain warranty eligibility.

4. Installation Pathways

Please follow the protocol specific to your chosen service:

Pathway A: Balance Recovery Professional Service

  • Our Responsibility: We handle the full structural build, internal furniture fitting, and hardware mounting.
  • Warranty: Includes a 2-Year Comprehensive Warranty covering both parts and our structural labour.

Pathway B: Self-Assembly (Independent Contractors)

  • Your Contractor's Responsibility: Your carpenter must follow the Harvia Technical Manual for the shell assembly, bench installation, and hardware mounting.
  • Warranty: Includes a 1-Year Parts-Only Warranty. Balance Recovery is responsible for the quality of the components; your contractor is responsible for the quality of the build and alignment.

5. Mandatory Stewardship (The Handover)

To validate the warranty for either pathway, the following must be performed:

  • The Preservation Seal: Apply a breathable wood oil to all Spruce surfaces within 7 days to protect against moisture and UV.
  • Certification: Keep a copy of the Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) as proof of professional hook-up.
 Warranty +

Harvia Family Large Warranty

Buying a sauna is a big decision, and we want you to feel completely backed by us. This document explains exactly how we protect your investment and what we need from you to keep your Family L running perfectly for years to come.

1. How Long Are You Covered?

We offer two levels of protection based on who builds your sauna. Both start the moment your electrician signs off on the power connection.

  • If We Build It (Professional Installation): You get a 2-Year Comprehensive Warranty. We take full responsibility for the structure, the way the wood settles, the door alignment, and all the Harvia hardware.
  • If You Build It (Self-Assembly): You get a 1-Year Parts Warranty. We guarantee that every piece of timber and every electrical component we send you is of the highest quality. Your builder is responsible for the labor and the final alignment.

2. The Timber: What to Expect from Solid Spruce

Your sauna is made of high-grade European Spruce. Because it’s a natural material being heated to 90°C by a powerful 9kW heater, it will "breathe."

  • What’s Covered: We guarantee the wood against rot, fungal decay, or any major structural failure.
  • What’s Natural: You might see tiny hairline cracks (surface shakes) or a bit of resin seepage over time. This isn't a defect; it’s just the wood reacting to the heat, and it’s a sign of an authentic Finnish sauna experience.

3. The Electrical Hardware: What’s Covered?

Your Family L is powered by a Harvia 9.0kW system, which is the gold standard in Finnish engineering. We break the electrical coverage down into three parts:

  • The Heater Body & Controls (2 Years): We cover the main heater unit and the external control hub (like the Xenio Fenix) against any mechanical or electronic failure. If the "brains" of the system stop working, we replace them.
  • The Heating Elements (12 Months): Think of these like the "lightbulbs" of your sauna. They are hardworking components that handle extreme stress. We guarantee them for a full year of residential use.
  • The LED Lighting (1 Year): Your white LED strips and the transformer are covered for 12 months.

The "Warranty Rules" for Electricity

Because a 9.0kW system pulls a significant amount of power, our electrical warranty is only valid if:

  1. You use a Pro: A qualified, registered electrician must do the final connection and provide you with an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC).
  2. You use the correct "Heat-Proof" Cable: Your electrician must use SiHF-JB high-temperature silicone cable. If standard PVC house wiring is used inside the sauna, it will eventually melt or become brittle, which voids the electrical warranty.
  3. Correct Stones: You use the provided Finnish sauna stones and stack them according to the manual (not packed too tightly), allowing the air to flow and preventing the elements from overheating.

4. Your Part: Two Simple Steps

To keep your warranty active, we ask you to do two things within the first week:

  • The First Oil: Apply a breathable wood oil to the inside and outside of the sauna within 7 days. This acts like a shield against moisture and UV rays.
  • The Level Base: Ensure your base stays solid and level. The Family L (plus 5 people) weighs about 1,150kg, so a sturdy foundation is key to keeping the glass doors perfectly aligned.

5. Refund and Replacement Conditions

  • Covered Circumstances: Refunds or replacements are provided only where goods are defective, damaged in transit or not as described.
