Hard Shell Chambers

A hard shell hyperbaric chamber is a rigid, fixed-structure vessel designed for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) at higher pressures. Unlike inflatable soft chambers, these units are constructed from durable materials such as stainless steel, aircraft-grade aluminium, or thick polycarbonate (acrylic). This rigid construction allows them to reach and maintain pressures between 1.5 ATA and 2.0 ATA (Atmospheres Absolute), providing a deeper level of oxygen penetration into the body's tissues.

The primary difference is pressure capability and comfort.

• Pressure: While soft shells typically top out at 1.3 ATA, hard shell chambers can safely reach 2.0 ATA. According to Henry's Law, this higher pressure drives significantly more oxygen into the blood plasma, which many users find more effective for deep tissue recovery and chronic conditions.
• Comfort: Hard shells are essentially "furnished rooms." They often feature integrated air conditioning, proper seats or beds, and large transparent doors, making them far more comfortable for longer sessions.

One of the distinct advantages of our hard shell collection is the Climate Control System. Because compressing air naturally generates heat, high-pressure sessions can become warm. However, our hard shell units are compatible with external air conditioning and dehumidifier units. This allows you to set a precise, cool temperature inside the cabin, ensuring you remain comfortable even during 90-minute sessions at 2.0 ATA.

Hard shell chambers are designed for accessibility. Unlike soft chambers that require you to crawl through a zipper opening on the floor, rigid chambers typically feature large, side-entry sliding doors. This makes them ideal for users with limited mobility, the elderly, or those who simply prefer to walk in and sit down. Some larger models are even spacious enough to accommodate a wheelchair.

Safety is paramount. The chamber is pressurised with filtered ambient air, and you breathe concentrated oxygen (90–96%) through a BIBS (Built-in Breathing System) mask or headset.

Filling an entire room with 100% oxygen poses a significant fire risk (monoplace clinical style). By using the "air for pressure, mask for oxygen" method, our chambers remain safe for home and commercial use without the need for complex fire suppression systems.

Due to their robust construction, hard shell chambers are heavy (often weighing between 150kg and 400kg).

• Location: They are best installed on a ground floor with solid concrete or reinforced flooring.
• Access: You must ensure you have wide door access (typically 80cm+) for delivery.
• Power: Despite their size, they usually run on standard UK mains power, requiring sockets for the air compressor, oxygen concentrator, and cooling unit.

Hard shell chambers are often favoured by those who dislike tight spaces. Many models feature panoramic clear viewing sections or are made entirely of transparent acrylic. This provides 360-degree visibility, allowing you to watch TV or communicate easily with people outside. Most units also include an internal intercom system for constant two-way communication.

Hard shell chambers are built for longevity and require minimal daily maintenance.

• Seals: The door seals are durable silicone and simply need to be kept clean and occasionally lubricated.
• Filters: As with all HBOT systems, the air compressor and oxygen concentrator filters should be cleaned or replaced every 6 months to maintain air purity.
• Cleaning: The smooth interior surfaces (leather seats, acrylic walls) can be easily wiped down with antibacterial solution between users.
